Kevin Lee Smith

Kevin L. Smith was born on July 22, 1960 to Donald and Betty Smith on an acreage outside of Raymond, Nebraska (previously called Crounse). Family moved to Denton in 1964. He went home to be with Mom and Dad on May 13, 2023 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

He is survived by sisters, Carol Clark and her special friend, Eddy Kvasnicka of Aberdeen, SD; Linda Luis Jordan of Lincoln, Nancy McMeen and her husband, Ed of Lincoln, brothers, Steve Smith and his wife Sandy of Greenwood; David Smith and his wife Sis of Wentzville, MO, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a lot of great friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Betty Smith.

There will be a Celebration of his life with family and friends at a graveside service May 25, 2023, 3:30pm at Lincoln Memorial. We will all meet at Gate 2 and be led to gravesite. Everyone is invited to The Isles, 6232 Havelock Ave directly after service to share memories and tell stories.

Douglas E. Stroman

Doug was born on June 3, 1950, in David City, Nebraska to Ralph and Elzada Stroman. Doug passed away peacefully on May 12, 2023, at home with family by his side.  Doug was raised on the Stroman Farm in Ulysses, Nebraska. Doug attended Ulysses Grade School. Then in 1966, the family moved to Leigh, Nebraska where Doug graduated from Stanton High School in 1968.

Doug enlisted in the Navy (August 1969- August 1975) stationed in Guam as a Radioman. Doug married Melba Banez and continued to live in Guam, raising his two sons, Jeremiah, and Joshua until 1983. After divorcing from Melba, he returned to Nebraska with his two boys and remained in Nebraska.

Doug married Suzanne (Magee) Stroman in 1992. They lived in Lincoln, Nebraska where Doug worked as both a flooring and antique salesman. Doug had a deep passion for family, friends, Jesus, music, and antiques. Some of Doug’s favorites were Pink Floyd and John Deere.

Survived by his Wife: Suzanne (Susie), Son: Jeremiah Stroman (Bobbi), Stepsons: Nate (Anita) Moore, and Justin Moore. Grandchildren: Brittany Closson (Christopher), Alexandra Stroman, Jacob Stroman, Harper Moore, Quinn Moore, Jesse Stroman, Jordan Stroman, Joshua JR Stroman, and Harley Stroman. Brother: Charles (Chic)(Karen) Stroman, Sisters: Judy (Dwight) Kumm, Marilyn (Robert) Croci, Special Cousin: Gary (Jane) Greiving, Special Friend: Adam (Heidi) Kruger, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Elzada Stroman, Brother: Stephen (Steve) Stroman, Scott Stroman, Son: Joshua Stroman, and Grandson: Joseph Stroman.

Graveside to be held at 10:00 a.m. at Ulysses Township Cemetery on June 17, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held June 17, 2023, From 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Willard Community Center, 1245 S. Folsom Street, Lincoln Nebraska.  Memorials in lieu of flowers to the family can be sent to the Stroman Family at 1809 SW 31st Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68522.

Charles Sayward

Dr. Charles W. Sayward Jr., 85, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 after a brief illness in Lincoln, NE.  Charles  was born in Lewiston, ME on August 1, 1937, to Charles W. Sr., and Geraldyne E. (Torrie) Sayward.

Charles graduated with highest honors (Philosophy) in 1959 from Bates College,  and obtained his PHD from Cornell University. After obtaining his PHD, he taught Philosophy at Vanderbilt University. Charles went on to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Philosophy of logic, language and mathematics. Ultimately, he became the head of the Department until his retirement.

Charles was a very kind, caring, loving and compassionate person. Charles was a published author having written a few books. Charles loved to read, exercise, swim and run.  At one time in his life, he actually ran in the Boston Marathon! He had a very high and loving interest for all animals. He donated money yearly to local charities for animals, but most of all enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his entire family, especially with his son Michael, who was the love and pride of his life.

Mr. Sayward is survived by his son, Michael Sayward of Lincoln, NE, sister, Torrie Hensley of Branson, MO, his brother, Jeffrey Sayward of Dayton, ME, his brother in law, Larry Hart and his wife Eleanor of Burchard, NE and his sister in law, Rose Moulden of Pawnee City, NE and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 at 2 pm.at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Burchard, NE. Mr. Sayward will be buried alongside his wife Lela, who predeceased him on June 3, 2022. In lieu of flowers, any contributions can be made in Mr. Sayward’s memory to The Cat House, PO Box 23145, Lincoln, NE 68542. Cards of condolences may be mailed to Aspen Cremation Service at 4822 Cleveland Ave, Lincoln, NE 68504.
