Ruthann E. Steffen, lovingly known as “Ruthie,” of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on March 29, 1939, in Cook, Nebraska, Ruthie was the daughter of William and Esta (Damme) Behrens.

Ruthie grew up in Nebraska, where she learned the values of honesty, hard work, and loyalty that would define her life. She carried those qualities into everything she did—whether raising her children, tending her garden, sewing a quilt, or cheering on her beloved Nebraska football team. Ruthie had a contagious laugh could brighten any room. She married Robert “Bob” Steffen, and together they built and operated nursing homes, flew planes and helicopters, and made lifelong friends all over the country. Ruthie and Bob shared a partnership that embodied devotion and commitment.

Ruthie is survived by her sister, Ivy Weber; her children, Marty Schwab, Teri Nincehelser, Lori Taylor, Paul Steffen, Brett Steffen and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward her warmth and wisdom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her sister, Arleen Lempka; her brother, Denver Behrens; and her parents, William and Esta Behrens.

We shared many years of laughter/fun and trials of life together. She taught me how to JitterBug dance that is my favorite memory on that Saturday night before she left to go dancing in Syracuse! She was 17 and I was 13! I miss you Ruthie❤️
