Emily Jean Carpenter

Emily Jean Carpenter was born April 14, 1936 in Overton, Nebraska to Nathan & Mina (Alice) Emerson Carpenter. She passed away on December 28, 2021, at the age of 85, at Sumner Place in Lincoln, under the care of Hospice and many sweet loving people.

She was the youngest of 12 children.

Those preceding her in death are: parents Nathan & Alice Carpenter; brothers & sisters: Wade (Elanor), Lloyd (Lorraine), Leon (Nellie), Claude (Irene) was killed in a Japanese prison camp at the end of WWll; Margaret (Charlie)Thompson of Laramie, Wy; John (Maxine Jones) of Lincoln Roxanna (Kenneth)Young of Branson, MO; Phillip (Pete) of Scottsdale,AZ; Aleta (Elmer Snowden)of Lexington, NE; and Rachel Carpenter, who died in infancy.

At the age of 7, Emily contracted an illness that left her deaf and handicapped. She went to several schools in Omaha and Beatrice, eventually living in Lincoln with care from OUR Homes & Region 5 while working at different jobs & learning different crafts.

She is survived by her sister Alice Van Dine of Seabrook, NH; many nieces & nephews and friends.

Emily was such a sweetheart and enjoyed sports when younger, visitors, getting mail, Root beer, ice cream, M&Ms, TV (especially Andy Griffith & similar shows).

We love you sweet Emily! You will be missed and we all pray you are at peace.

Jimmy Dean Weichel

Jimmy Dean Weichel, 69, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Lancaster Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, NE. Jimmy was born on July 14, 1952 to John and Irene Weichel and was one of 5 children.

Jimmy attended the University of Nebraska and loved cooking, gardening, music, National Parks and the great outdoors. He worked in several professions, including teaching, but always gravitated back to culinary arts and the restaurant industry. He opened and worked in numerous restaurants over the years, culminating in co-owning L’Auberge Restaurant in Estes Park, CO, with his brother Jack. In his spare time, you could generally find Jimmy doing something outdoors, whether it was bicycling from Lincoln, NE, to West Yellowstone, Montana, or climbing one of the peaks in either Rocky Mountain or Olympic National Parks.  To that end, Jimmy asked that his ashes be spread in one of those two National Parks.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Weichel; older sister Jeanette (Weichel) Mohlman, older brother Jack Weichel, and niece Michelle (Yakel) Estes. Jimmy is survived by his oldest sister Judy (Weichel) McConnell; older brother Johnny Weichel; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jimmy prefers memorial gifts in lieu of flowers, and specifically asked for memorials to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Charlott Irene Holton

Irene Holton, age 99, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021 after a brief illness.  She was born on September 11, 1922 to Hans and Svanhild Jacobsen in Brooklyn, New York and was the eldest of three daughters. She attended Bay Ridge High School and graduated with the class of 1940.  While on vacation at a dude ranch in upstate New York, Irene met rodeo cowboy Warren G (Doc) Holton and they were married on July 31, 1949.  After riding the rodeo circuit for several years, Doc and Irene settled and made their home in Phoenix where she lived for the next 60 years until her health began to fail and decided to move to Lincoln, Nebraska where she could be closer to family.

Irene made a career of being a produce buyer where she worked for several brokerage houses over the years becoming pioneer in her field.  In later years, she worked as a bookkeeper for Phoenix area truck brokerages until she retired in 1985.

She was active in the Eastern Star, Sons of Norway, Daughters of Norway and various other fraternal organizations that promoted her Norwegian heritage.  She was multilingual speaking English, French, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish.

Irene is survived by her daughter Jamalee (Duane) Roach, grandchildren Jennifer and Matthew, numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

She requested no services.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to your local humane society.

Alex John Meyer

Alex Meyer, age 80, of Snyder NE died Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at St. Elizabeth’s Burn Center in Lincoln.

A celebration of life memorial service will be at 2 PM on Monday, December 27, at Evangelical Free Church in Fremont ( 2050 N Lincoln) led by Pastor Ryan Miller.  Lunch and reminiscing will follow.  A private interment at the Snyder Community Cemetery will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial destinations will include the Orphan Grain Train (Norfolk NE) and the Marlex Secondary School (Marangu, Tanzania).

Alex John Meyer was born September 18, 1941 at home in rural Snyder to Alvin and Elsie (Schneider) Meyer.  He attended Snyder Public School graduating in 1959.  After attending UNL for a semester, he joined the Army Reserves and then attended Midland Lutheran College, Fremont, graduating in 1964 with a BS degree majoring in education/science/math.  A Masters in Guidance Counseling was obtained from Wayne State in 1979.

On August 18, 1964 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg (Marquette NE), Alex married Marlys Janelle Nissen.  To this union were born 5 children with 3 added by adoption in 1983 resulting in the “appearance” of twins and triplets at times!

Alex taught a year in Salt Lake City UT, 2 years in Decatur NE, 30 years in Dodge, 1/2 year in Leigh.  He was a mail carrier in West Point for a short time, plus he farmed full-time for 30 years.

Alex’s interests were many: telling of and sharing Christ’s love, searching genealogy, enjoying pet bulls, traveling in country and out, hiking up mountains plus 1000s of miles of trails, competing in all events of Senior track meets, compiling books to honor local veterans and history, instigating a local museum, etc.

Alex is survived by his wife, Marlys;
