Clifford G. Miller Jr.

featured image

Clifford Gordon Miller, Jr passed away January 29, 2024 at the age of 81.

Cliff went to several grade schools in his youth until our parents got settled in the Havelock area. Cliff went to Lincoln Northeast High School and was one of the few who went all 6 years for both junior and senior high school.

Cliff loved his horse races (excellent handicapper), his music especially jazz, stereo equipment, photography, Huskers football and Havelock.

He lived in Havelock his whole life and had many childhood friends and knew everything there was to know about Havelock. He had many interesting stories about his days in Havelock.

Cliff enlisted in the Army after school and served our country for 3 1/2 yrs mostly in Germany. During that time he had many details that earned him the Good Conduct Medal with a letter sent to our parents from his commanding officer telling them how proud his was having Cliff serve under his command.

He then worked for the State/Department of Roads as a surveyor until he got on the railroad Burlington Northern which he worked 35 yrs until retirement (which I found a bunch pins in his closet showing his good work ethic).

He was a great bowler like his father which he was a member of the 700 club and bowled a high score of 298 with 11 strikes in a row.

He was an expert on jazz and had all the albums which he would listen for hours on his stereo equipment. He was an excellent statistician which he kept track of all the football games, horse races, lottery number etc.

Cliff had a fantastic memory all in tact until he passed. He remembered everything from his whole life. Being with him and caring for him for the last 7 months, he told me many stories of his life. I learned a lot of my brother in the time with him as he kept his life mostly to himself as he was a very private person.

Cliff didn’t want any “hoopla” after his passing so to honor him we decided that I would write an obituary and post it on Facebook and here, hoping it reaches the people that cared and knew him.

He was a gentle soul, a kind man with good heart for anyone, never judged anyone and generous to anyone in need. He was a loner…to quote Cliff  “I like flying under the radar” and lived his life that way.  He didn’t need much to be happy and content just enjoying what he loved in life and living modestly. If you met Cliff you liked him, he was just that kind of guy.

We want to the thank the the hospice team from Tranditions for all their help and guidance through this transition with Cliff’s cancer.  They were wonderful and they loved Cliff and he loved them back as he developed a special friendship with all the wonderful ladies that attended to him but especially with his main nurse Barb and his aide Lane.

He is survived by his sisters, Cathy Miller and Candy Rees, cousin Debby Barnes and cousin Lynn Miller. Nephew Corey Skaggs, wife Julie and their son Mason. Grand nephew Robert Skaggs,Jr, grand Neices Sofie, Alexa and Ava Skaggs, their mother Jenny. His niece Holly Salzman, nephew Casey Bryan.

He is preceded in death of his parents Babe and Zetta Miller and nephew Robert Skaggs Jr.

Terrance “Terry” Masters

featured image

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Terrance “Terry” Masters at the age of 73. Terry passed away peacefully at his home on January 13, 2024.

Terry is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa Hampton, their two sons, John Masters and Jeremy (Hannah) Masters, and daughter Jordan Masters. Terry was also a loving grandfather to John Masters-Alvarez Jr., Ajani Masters, and Remy Booker. Terry is also survived by his mother, Eva Nollette, his sisters, Deanna (Greg) Teaford, Lyreva (Neal) Clark, and his brothers Richard (Cathe) Masters and George (Candy) Nollette. Terry was preceded in death by his sister Melissa Brenneman, step-father Thomas Nollette, and father Leo Masters.

Terry found joy in the simple pleasures. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for camping and fishing, where he created countless memories with family and friends. Terry’s culinary skills were legendary, as he enjoyed cooking and sharing delicious meals with those he held dear. A green thumb and avid gardener, he found solace in nurturing and tending to his garden, a reflection of his nurturing spirit.

Terry dedicated over 30 years of service to the Nebraska Department of Roads. His commitment and hard work contributed significantly to the betterment of the community.

His impact also reached the younger generation through his participation in the Boy Scouts of America. Terry served as a leader in Troop 44, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many scouts he mentored and guided toward becoming responsible, compassionate individuals.

As we remember Terry, let us celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and a genuine connection to others. In honoring his memory, let us continue to embrace the values of family, community, and the simple joys that Terry so deeply cherished.

The family will hold a public service to celebrate Terry’s life at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church (1420 K St, Lincoln) Friday, January 26th at 9:30am. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Scouts BSA in Terry’s name, continuing his legacy of mentorship and community service.

May Terry Masters rest in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
