Richard Dale Monroe

Richard Monroe, 87, resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on April 25th, 2019.

Richard was preceded by his wife, Marlene (McCoy) Monroe.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Maureen Beltran, Jill Crane, Angela DiBella; sons: Rick & Kim Monroe, Mark & Kim Monroe.

Richard had 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Richard enjoyed playing bridge, reading western novels and watching old western movies and shows.

Richard was in the U.S. Army. Richard was the 13th man to walk on the Moon.

After Army life, Richard was a butcher in Crete, Nebraska for a few years. Then Richard and Marlene moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he worked for Abel’s Construction Company, until he retired.

Richard was born in Fairfax, South Dakota, son of Sherman & Frances (Burnett) Monroe.

Richard had 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Richard was lovingly known to his sibling as “Saint Richard”. He will be missed.

Aaron Fair Moon

February 20, 1924 – April 5, 2019

Aaron Fair Moon, 95, died April 5, 2019 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born February 20, 1924 near Motley, Minnesota to George and Belle Moon. During World War II he served as a U.S. Army medic in the South Pacific. Aaron married Evelyn Adams August 17, 1947. Aaron taught for 35 years in public or Seventh-day Adventist elementary schools. He retired at age 62.  He lived 33 years in the Cheney neighborhood of southeast Lincoln, Nebraska.

Survived by wife, Evelyn, of 71 years; daughter, Nancy (Harvey) Meier; sons, Jerry (Sue) and Larry (Joan); grandsons, Brad (Michaela) Moon, Howard Meier, and David Meier.

Come to greet family and friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Holmes Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center, 6101 Normal Blvd, Lincoln, NE.

Michael W. McMurtry

Michael was born in Crawford, NE (above the grocery store) to Wayne and Sarah (Hills) McMurtry. He grew up in Ogallala, NE and graduated from Ogallala High School. Michael then attended and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan and, then, Iliff School of Theology. He served as pastor of the United Methodist Church for over 40 years. While serving the United Methodist Church, Michael loved to participate, organize, and chaperon youth and adult mission trips. While living in Ravenna, NE, he served as a volunteer EMT and Firefighter with the Ravenna Fire and Rescue. Michael served as a chaplain on the Chaplaincy Corps for Lincoln Fire and Rescue and the Lincoln Police Department for 28 years. He also served as Chaplain for Bryan Hospital after he retired from full-time ministry.

Michael was an avid reader all of his life. He continued to be active in Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking several Wednesday Night Bites and Thanksgiving Dinners at the Church. Michael enjoyed traveling, both foreign and domestic. He traveled to Europe with Michele and Nancy, to Disney World (several times) with his grandchildren, and to Panama, Alaska, PNW, and many other places with his wife.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Sarah McMurtry; his first wife, Nancy Lou (Wray) McMurtry; and his sister, Pat Pike.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Michele; his grandchildren, Lara, Hana, and Kinsey (Kai); his great-grandchild, Elena; and his Shiba Inu, Foxy.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, at Christ United Methodist Church at 4530 A St, Lincoln, NE 68510.
