Joy Margheim, born December 6, 1967, died early in the morning on February 19, 2018, with her husband, Robb, and her dog, Roxanne, by her side. Joy had fought colon cancer with strength and determination for a year, making it into remission by October. The cancer came back suddenly in early January. Joy was born in Alliance, NE, and raised in Chadron, NE, and Alliance. After graduating from high school, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of California-Berkeley and Arizona State University. She explored a variety of professions, but she ultimately found her home in the book editing field and worked many years as an editor for the University of Nebraska Press. In 1993, she married Robb Finegan, and they explored the world together for 25 years. After living in Portland, OR, for many years, they relocated to St. Louis and then back to Lincoln to be close to family and friends. Joy enjoyed running, often with her close friend, Tish. She enthusiastically supported Robb’s passions for long-distance running and bicycling. Roxanne was always by her side, and Joy loved to take her for meandering, squirrel-chasing walks, and on runs to the dog park. Joy is survived by her parents, Laurice and Cari Margheim (Eagar, AZ); husband, Robb (Lincoln); sisters, Kris Rude (husband Jeff, Cheyenne, WY), and Virginia “Ginger” Musser (husband Noah, Lawrence, KS); sister-in-law, Colleen Hood (husband Rob, Lakeside, NE); mother-in-law and father-in-law Betty and Steve Blakey (Lakeside, NE); nieces and nephews, Macala and Baily Hood (Lakeside, NE), Carolyn and Ben Rude (Cheyenne, WY), and Kellar and Owen Musser (Lawrence, KS). We will remember Joy for her kindness, sense of humor, and unfailing sensibility. She appreciated the simple things in life, like good pancakes, good books, and good friends. To remember her for the joy she brought to us all, a celebration of life will be June 30. The Celebration will be at Antelope Park – Auld Pavilion, 1650 Memorial Dr., Lincoln, NE 68508, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Full details and RSVP information will be shared closer to the date. Memorial contributions may also be made to the Capital Humane Society. http://www.capitalhumanesociety.org/.
