Muriel Gene Maddox
Muriel Gene Maddox, 97, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 in her home at Ox Bow Assisted Living in Ashland, Nebraska surrounded by her family. Born Muriel Gene Thomas in southern Iowa on August 15, 1920. She was the youngest of 8. She cared for her own mother until her death before marrying and eventually settling in Iowa where she worked and raised her children. After retirement, she moved to Nebraska to be closer to the majority of her family. Muriel will be greatly missed by her surviving children Connie (Russ) Backoff of Clovis, New Mexico, Candice (Carl) Steimle of Panama, Nebraska, Carla (late Don) Sittner of Lincoln, Daniel (Deb) Maddox Jr. of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Dennis (Mary) Maddox of Portsmouth, Iowa. Also experiencing her loss are her 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. They will all remember her great love for her family, sweets, puzzles and butterflies. Muriel was preceded by her daughter, Christie (late Stan) Christiansen, a grandson, 7 siblings and 2 sons-in-law. According to her wishes, there will be no visitation or services.

Rose L. Masek
Rose Masek, 93, formerly of Valparaiso, died Monday, January 8th in Wahoo. Rose was born July 15, 1924 near Deweese, Nebraska to William and Lula (Petr) Sekora. She graduated from Deweese High School. She was married to Harry Masek on January 8, 1945 at St. Martin’s (Loucky) Catholic Church near Deweese. They made their home on a farm west of Raymond until 1963. From 1963 to 1978 Rose and Harry owned and operated Harry’s Market in Valparaiso. She was also a homemaker and member of Saints Mary & Joseph Catholic Church. Rose was very active with the Valparaiso Senior Center, Saints Mary & Joseph PCCW. She was a recipient of the Valparaiso Community Service Award. Rose made and donated hundreds of rosaries and she also enjoyed making kolaches and strudel for family and friends. Rose and Harry enjoyed travelling in the states and abroad. Survivors: Daughters, Rita (Richard) Muff, Omaha, Loretta (Ron) Kubik, Seward, Mary (Mark) Hardesty, Seward. Sons: Dennis (Vernie) Masek, Valparaiso, Daniel (Debra) Masek, Lincoln, Robert (Susan) Masek, Agnew. Daughter-in-law: Pat Hudnall, Unadilla. Sisters-in-law: Genevieve Kobza, Bonnie Masek, Valparaiso. 19 Grandchildren, 42 Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Leo, brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Marie Sekora, sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Ernie Masek. Mass of Christian Burial was on Monday, January 15th, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Saints Mary & Joseph Church in Valparaiso, Nebraska with visitation an hour before the service. Rose’s Rosary was the night before at 7:00 p.m. with a visitation that started at 5:00 p.m. Graveside service followed Mass at St. Vitus Cemetery in Touhy, Nebraska with a luncheon following at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for future designation.

Casey Lee Musgrove
Casey Lee Musgrove, 31, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday December 12, 2017. He was born October 27, 1986 in Lincoln to Julie (Musgrove) Phillips and Robert Patlan. He had a natural aptitude for computer technology. He felt that contributing to The Bay charity was a worthwhile endeavor. He had been trying to overcome obstacles and was looking forward to the possibilities that his future held. Preceded in death by his father Robert Patlan, his grandfathers Jim Musgrove and Frank Rodriguez. He is survived by his daughter Rayne Musgrove, mother and stepfather Julie and Matt Phillips, sister America Reid, brothers Stormy Overton, Joseph Overton, and Robert Patlan jr., grandmothers Connie Richards, Virginia Patlan, and Cindy Musgrove, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family would like to recognize Rayne’s mother, Jessica Scanlon, and a grandfather figure, Tom Keller, for the special roles they had in Casey’s life. A private graveside service was at Wyuka Cemetery, 3600 O Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. A memorial gathering was at the Lincoln FireFighters Reception Hall at 241 Victory Lane, Lincoln on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for all friends and family. Many wore a band t-shirt to honor Casey’s love of music.
