Alice Lorene Cherry
Alice Lorene Petersen Cherry, 93, passed on to her next adventure on March 20, 2022 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born in Mason City, Nebraska on October 27, 1928 to Carl and Alice Petersen, the ninth of 11 children. Alice grew up in Mason City attending school and graduating from Mason City High School and completed Normal Training to become a teacher. She taught at a one-room school house and it was during this time she met her husband, Glen Cherry. The couple married in Valley, Nebraska June 17, 1951 and had three children. Alice and Glen parted ways on December 20, 1976. Alice wore many hats during her lifetime and she loved wearing hats both literally and figuratively. She was well known for her hats at church where she was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Alice was a teacher, homemaker, Activity Director at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow, and an early childhood teacher in Bedford, Texas. Throughout her life, Alice was a staunch follower of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln athletic programs, especially football and a fiercely loyal St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, a love she inherited from her mother. She moved to Maryland with Todd and Sarah in 2012 and became a faithful and loyal Washington Capitals hockey fan and loved attending the games where she was a popular fan, often bringing treats for the staff and ushers in her seating area. Alice returned to Lincoln, Nebraska in November 2019 where she resided at Independence House Coddington. She loved the staff and her home while being able to visit with children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. She was protected from the pandemic by the caring and attentive staff and remained in good physical health while her memory often took her back in time to times when she anchored a girls relay team that beat the boys. She would often remember times she loved to run. She was a staff favorite as her onery side and love of a good joke or prank was often on display. Alice is survived by her children and spouses: Ardeth (Doug) Stroh of Wichita, Kansas; Zoe (Jim) Olson of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Todd (Sarah Murphy) Cherry of Edgewood, Maryland; eight grandchildren and families: Rebecca Stroh, Michelle (Clark) Fintel, Benjamin (Brittany) Roth, Robert Stroh, Courtney Stroh, Zachary (Rachael Friedman) Roth, Cassie (Karl) Dietrich, and Noah (Ella) Roth; and nine great-grandchildren: Peyton, Sophia, Lorelei, Gavin, Cloe, Violet, Hayley, Hannah and Isadora; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Cora, Gladys, Eunice, Ruth and Thelma, brothers, Gilbert, Jesse, Albert, Carl and infant brother, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was the last surviving family member of her generation. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Bethany Christian Church, 1645 N Cotner Blvd, Lincoln, Nebraska. Delynn Rae Cain
Delynn Rae (Clark) Cain, 63, of North Platte, passed away at her home on February 4th, 2022. Delynn was born on Jan. 16, 1959, in Alliance, Nebraska to Dell and Karen Clark of Alliance. She attended kindergarten in Alliance, moved to Lexington with her family, the family later returned, where she graduated from Alliance High School in 1977. She attended Chadron State College, this is where she met the love of her life, Rodney Gene Cain. Delynn and Rodney were married at the First Christian Church in Alliance on June 8, 1979. They joined Rodney’s parents in their western wear business in North Platte in 1980 where they worked until the business was sold in 1999. Three children were born to this union, Jesse, Jace, and Crista, they raised their children in North Platte. Delynn and Rodney were able to spend 42 wonderful years together. Delynn was blessed to be able to spend her time watching her kids play sports. She was a member of the Little League Baseball board and Platte Valley Girls softball board. She kept score at many baseball and softball games. She was able to coach many of her daughter’s sports. Traveling to watch her kids at baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball and tennis tournaments gave her joy. She loved spending time with her grandsons Jax, Brayden, Rogan and Callum. It was always Delynn’s passion to be a nurse and she was able to go back to school and graduate as an RN with their son, Jace in 2010. She attained her BSN in 2017 from UNMC. She spent ten years as a RN and spent her last few years traveling as a labor and delivery nurse where she met so many wonderful people. Delynn is survived by her parents, Dell and Karen Clark of Alliance; husband, Rodney of Lincoln; sons, Jesse (Elizabeth) Cain of Lincoln and their sons Rogan and Callum; Jace (Sussan) Cain of Corpus Christi, TX their sons Jax and Brayden; daughter, Crista (Colbin Beals) Cain of Hazel Park, MI. Brothers JR (Julie) Clark of Wellfleet and their children Wyatt, Jaden and Madison; Doug Clark (Isaac Cabrera) of Denver, CO; and Jake (Kerin) Clark and their children Kadra and Kyler of Yoder, WY.; as well as many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her in-laws, Gene and Marianna Cain. A family gathering will be held at a later date. Emily Jean Carpenter
Emily Jean Carpenter was born April 14, 1936 in Overton, Nebraska to Nathan & Mina (Alice) Emerson Carpenter. She passed away on December 28, 2021, at the age of 85, at Sumner Place in Lincoln, under the care of Hospice and many sweet loving people. She was the youngest of 12 children. Those preceding her in death are: parents Nathan & Alice Carpenter; brothers & sisters: Wade (Elanor), Lloyd (Lorraine), Leon (Nellie), Claude (Irene) was killed in a Japanese prison camp at the end of WWll; Margaret (Charlie)Thompson of Laramie, Wy; John (Maxine Jones) of Lincoln Roxanna (Kenneth)Young of Branson, MO; Phillip (Pete) of Scottsdale,AZ; Aleta (Elmer Snowden)of Lexington, NE; and Rachel Carpenter, who died in infancy. At the age of 7, Emily contracted an illness that left her deaf and handicapped. She went to several schools in Omaha and Beatrice, eventually living in Lincoln with care from OUR Homes & Region 5 while working at different jobs & learning different crafts. She is survived by her sister Alice Van Dine of Seabrook, NH; many nieces & nephews and friends. Emily was such a sweetheart and enjoyed sports when younger, visitors, getting mail, Root beer, ice cream, M&Ms, TV (especially Andy Griffith & similar shows). We love you sweet Emily!
