June 25, 1934 – October 23, 2018 Charlotte I. Smith of Lincoln, was born to Charles E. and Daisy M. Hatcliff in Newhawka, Nebraska. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951 and married Jesse L. Smith on December 20, 1952. Charlotte enjoyed her employment at Citizen’s State Bank for 23 years taking considerable pride working for a great local institution and alongside many good friends. She enjoyed volunteering at elementary schools assisting students to become proficient readers. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers C. Eldon Hatcliff and David E. Hatcliff and a granddaughter, Christina Lewis. Charlotte is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jesse L. Smith; and four daughters, Paula (David) Little of Rusk, Texas; Gail (David) Lewis of Village of Lakewood, Illinois; Terri (Ted, deceased) Armfield of Cullowhee, North Carolina; and Pamela (William) Samuelson of Lake Forest, California; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, sister Helen E. Scott, and many loving nieces and nephews. Special appreciation is given to the compassionate staff of Independence House at Northview and the staff of AseraCare Hospice of Lincoln for the care and concern given to Charlotte and her family. No service.

Wayne passed away September 3, 2018 after a brief battle with liver cancer. He was born May 6, 1951 to Alden and Marcie Sabatka of Valparaiso. He graduated from Raymond Central in 1969 and enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1970-1976. He enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Once his grandchildren were born, he also spent lots of time with them and bringing them pizza, cereal and chocolate milk. Survivors include his wife Joann Sabatka, Lincoln; sons include Chris (Sarah), Kyle (Carolina), and Quinn all of Ceresco; grandchildren Owen and Ada Sabatka, and Eliana Sabatka all of Ceresco; mother Marcie Sabatka of Valparaiso; brothers and sisters Phil Sabatka of Lincoln, Mark (Kim) of Gretna, and Laurie (Terry) Anderson of Lincoln; brother-in-law Chuck Province; and many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his father, Alden Sabatka, sister-in-law Joan Sabatka, brother-in-law John Koluch, and step-daughter Jodi Maughan Kos. There will be a Celebration of Life in his honor on September 10, 2018 at 6:00 PM for family and friends at the Isles Reception Hall in Lincoln, NE. There will be a rosary in his honor at the St. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church in Valparaiso, September 14, 2018 at 9:30 AM with mass to follow. A private family graveside service to follow. Rand Dee Swiggart passed away peacefully at his home on August 12, 2018. A 1969 graduate of Ashland-Greenwood High School, Rand held the basketball scoring record for over 20 years and still holds two free throw records, a point of great pride for Rand. His loves included the Huskers, hunting, the White Sox, and most of all, his grandkids. Rand’s survivors include his longtime companion Juanita Washburn, brother Brad Swiggart (Gail), and sister Jamie Simms (Adam), stepsons Clark Washburn (Vicki), Tim Washburn (Jenny), stepdaughter Jill Wischmann (Bruce), several grandchildren, a great grandchild, two nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his mom, Marsha Swiggart, and his father, Earl Swiggart. Celebration of Life service will be Thursday August 16th at 6:30 p.m. at the Ashland American Legion. Memorials can be made out to Ashland Youth Ball Association, Pheasants Forever, or the Nebraska Humane Society (dogs only).
