Keith R. Scheer

Keith was born in Winner, SD on January 13, 1942 and God took him home April 23, 2019.

Keith’s family moved to Lincoln, NE and he attended school here.  The family moved to Ashland for 3 years before coming to Lincoln.  He received his GED while in the Navy.  After returning to Lincoln, Keith acquired his CDL and became a local dump truck driver and this was his profession for 50 years.  Keith was awarded several awards for his safe driving ability while working with General Excavating for over 19 years and Constructors for almost 10 yrs. After having a small stroke in 2015, Keith retired.

He belonged TO Alcoholics Anonymous and received his 18 year medallion in February this year.  Keith enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening and canning (making his own salsa) among other things.  He and Marla would go around the countryside picking plums, chokecherries, elderberry and whatever they could find to make jams and jellies.  He was a great cook and loved handing out his soups and other dishes he would make.

Survivors include his wife Marla (Elmshauser), sisters Peggy Scheer (Hoffman) of Lincoln, NE and Marilyn Olson of Winner, SD. Nephews and nieces in South Dakota and Nebraska. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Zola Scheer and brother Roger Scheer

Saturday, May 4, 2019 will be Keith’s Celebration of Life at The Meeting Place, 2748 S St, Lincoln, NE.  Memorials to Marla in care of Aspen Cremation Service, 4822 Cleveland Avenue, Lincoln, NE 68504.

His family will take Keith on his final trip to Ogallala, NE on May 11, 2019.  The Prairie Life Funeral Home will have a Celebration of Life at 2:30 pm and burial at the Ogallala Cemetery.  Please join the family/friends to share Keith’s journey.

John Wright Summers

John Wright Summers, 75, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2019, with his children, Laura and David, by his side.

Memorial Service was on Thursday, April 25th at 2:oo p.m. at the Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd, Omaha, NE 68138.

Followed, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. was a casual gathering at John’s favorite hangout, Famous Dave’s, 2750 Pine Lake Rd, Lincoln, NE 68516.

Mark Allen Schmucker “Schmuck”

Mark Allen Schmucker “Schmuck” of Palmyra, Nebraska, age 65, passed away unexpectedly April 1, 2019 at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was born April 21, 1953 to Joe and June Schmucker.  Mark graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to work for BNSF Railroad where he retired from after 40 years of service.  He loved to travel and loved to party with family and friends and have some cold beer and a good time.  His dream was to have his own farm someday, and that was fulfilled when he bought his farm in Palmyra.  He was happy there.  He enjoyed gardening and canning.  He also enjoyed going to the sprint car races, the World of Outlaws, tractor pulls, rodeos, many years of camping trips and auctions.  He loved his cameras and photography and took lots of wedding and graduation pictures for family and friends.  Mark was an avid Husker fan and watched many football games with his brother Scott.  He loved spending time with his kids and playing with his grandkids.

Mark is survived by his children Stacey J. Bigelow (Shannon), Emily N. Schmucker, Joe A. Schmucker, granddaughter Alaysha L. Schmucker, grandson Bryson Joe Mach-Schmucker, half-brother Tony Irons, brother Scott D. Schmucker, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.  Mark was preceded in death by his parents Joe and June Schmucker and his sister Lori Jo Schmucker.

Celebration of life took place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 at the Eagle’s Lodge, 500 W. Industrial Lake Rd. in Lincoln, NE.  Memorials to his children to help with expenses.

Richard “Dick” Streit

Richard “Dick” Streit of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away April 1, 2019, at his home in Lincoln.  He is survived by his partner Dian Rogers and her daughter Ryana; his sister Marilyn Zastrow of Grand Island; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dick was born September 2, 1940, to Ben and Dorothy Streit in Red Cloud, Nebraska.  He attended Franklin High School, where he was an active member of Future Farmers of America and played basketball and football.  He graduated in 1957 and went on to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he pledged Delta Tau Delta fraternity.  His time there cemented his passion for Husker sports – especially volleyball and football.

Dick was a true “jack-of-trades” and worked a number of jobs throughout his life including farming, sales, driving trucks, welding, and serving in the National Guard.  A true cowboy at heart, his favorite was raising horses and working as a cattle nutritionist. He retired in 2005 and moved to Lincoln.  He and Dian started Simply Homemade, making baked goods at farmer’s markets, first at Piedmont and then later at Old Cheney.  Dick’s job was washing dishes, rolling cake bites — by the thousands, and talking with the customers, which was, by far, the part that he enjoyed the most.

Dick was a feisty, fun guy.  He loved going to the casinos with Dian, spending time with family, and talking with his friends and neighbors.   He was an avid fan of watching bull riding and was able to attend the National Bull Riding Championship in Las Vegas, crossing that off of his bucket list – twice.

A celebration of life service was performed by the Rev. Susanna DesMarais at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 6001 A Street, in Lincoln, Nebraska on Monday, April 8, 2019, at 11:00 AM.   Inurnment will be at a later date in Franklin, Nebraska.  Online condolences may be shared at www.aspenaftercare.com.
