Phyllis D. Dodge (Henning) of Lincoln, NE, passed away on May 29, 2023.

She was born on June 14, 1931, in Effingham, KS the daughter of Oren Dean and Dorothy Catherine (Christie) Henning.

Phyllis grew up in Everest, Kansas and graduated from Everest High School.  Phyllis started working at a very young age as a waitress in her family’s restaurant and worked the soda fountain in the local drugstore in Everest.  She was one of the first remote workers, long before remote working was the thing, doing bookwork from home for a local couple who did tax work for families all over Kansas.  After that, she went to work at the Union State Bank in Everest and worked there for over 20 years.

In 1976 Phyllis moved to Alliance, Nebraska where she was able to build her first new home.  In Alliance she worked for Nile Valley Federal Savings and Loan, Ohio National Life, Brittan Insurance and Stan Feddersen Insurance, finally retiring at the age of 82.

Phyllis loved being close to her children and grandchildren and enjoyed reading books and doing crossword puzzles, sharing time together on holidays and baking everyone’s favorite treats.  Her favorite holidays were Memorial Day, Flag Day (her birthday) and July 4th, when she displayed red, white and blue decorations throughout her house.  She loved planting flowers, picnics in the park and mowing her lawn.  She loved visiting the ranch and spending time outside in the gazebo.  Whenever there was a family need, she was the first to roll up her sleeves and help.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Paula Crouse (Steve) of Walton, Nebraska; grandchildren Jarrod Crouse (Janelle), Megan Chrisman (Aron), Crystal Crouse, Bridget Johnston (Kevin), Casey Collins (Megan) and six great grandchildren.
