Steven C Rose

featured image

Steven Curtis Rose was born into this world  September 5, 1974 and departed from it surrounded by loved ones on October 9 , 2022, after a 10 month battle with Prostate Cancer.

He will be missed and remembered dearly. We knew him as someone who was a loyal friend. He was kind, calm, and had a sharp and quick wit, loved to debate philosophy, and gave wise advice. At the same time, he could build or fix just about anything. He enjoyed installing new components in his computer, each cord meticulously secured with tiny zip ties, and then joining his friends online for gaming adventures.

He was good with animals, and was always the favorite person for our cats. In his younger years he enjoyed camping and windsurfing.  Over the years he held many jobs, often related to his repair skills.

48 years was not long enough for him to learn everything he wanted to know. Not long enough to sort everything out, to see the world, to love and be loved. Words can not explain how much we have lost.

He is survived by:
Partner of 20 years, Kathy Springer
Mother Ruby Planansky
Son Layne Dowhower and Grand Daughter Journey.
Sister Dena Chalupa, nephews Cyrus, Drayden, Orion, and Lincoln Chalupa, niece Zanacia Rose, great nephews Axzl and Storm Rose.
Aunt Karen Rogers, Uncle Mikel Asmus (Mary Asmus aunt), cousins Julie Blanton and Joy Soucie, and cousins Caleb and Jacob Asmus
Kitty Norbert

He has gone to join:
Father, Harold Rose
Grandparents: Thelma Fisher (Kenard “kadoke” Fisher), Ruben Asmus (Dorothy Asmus)
Great uncle Thomas Potter, great aunt Cleo “scat” Croft (Caleb), great aunt Maxine Potter, and cousin Jonathon Urwin

In the many months following the death of my dear son Steven Curtis rose on October 9,2022. I reflect on the amazing care that Steven received in the hospice unit by the amazing doctors and nurses who were diligently at his side in his final hours. Without the amazing team at aspen crematorium…my family and I would have not been able to cope with such a devastating loss in our lives. We, the family of Steven Curtis rose will be forever thankful…..may all of Steven’s family and dear friends find peace in the memories we have of having Steve in our lives.

Carla May Rosenquist-Buhler

Carla May Rosenquist-Buhler peacefully left this world, which she loved so well, on October 6, 2022. The cause of death was metastatic cancer.

She was the daughter of Carl E. Rosenquist II and Isabel (Hamilton) Rosenquist. A native Californian, she embraced all kinds of natural surroundings, from the Pacific Ocean to mountains of Cleveland National Forest, where she lived for several years. She eventually embraced the gentle hills of eastern Nebraska, as well.

Carla was, at various times, a journalist, a poet and fiction writer, a preschool teacher, a children’s librarian, a corporate librarian, and an academic librarian. She earned tenure and promotion to Associate Professor of Libraries at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her true calling, however, turned out to be tending the earth. She was certified as a Master Gardener, even after her first traumatic illness, which included a stroke. She was also dedicated to transforming a piece of southeastern Nebraska back into prairie and forward into permacultural gardening and farming.

Carla was a warrior and inspiration, a lover of life and the arts, sweet or fierce (sometimes both sweet and fierce) as she thought the occasion required.

Carla is survived by her husband of 39 years, Stephen M. Buhler, and their daughter, Teresa R. Buhler, as well as by her brother Carl E. Rosenquist III and her brother James Rosenquist and his wife, Maureen (Provencher) Rosenquist, also by her brother-in-law Dennis Davis. Other survivors include her aunt (by marriage) Geri Dawson, her brother-in-law Daniel Buhler and his wife, Carol Sheridan, her sister-in-law Karen Jones and her husband, Russell Jones, her sister-in-law Mary Buccola and her husband, James Buccola.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Amy Rosenquist Davis.

Celebrations of Life will take place at a later time in Nebraska and in California. Memorials to Doctors Without Borders and Arbor Day Foundation.

Bradley J. Luethke

Bradley J Luethke (51) passed away peacefully October 5, 2022, after unforeseen complications due to the treatment of cancer.

Brad was a hard worker and loved working on anything electrical or mechanical. He was gifted with fixing vehicles and finding creative or unusual solutions. He also loved tinkering with computers and had built many over the years.

Brad loved the outdoors as well; you could hardly catch him inside. He especially enjoyed fishing and even bought a boat and fixed it up so that he could spend more time on the water. Sometimes even all night long! As much as he loved hunting, he didn’t have much time the last few years, and camping with the family every summer/fall was a nice replacement.

Brad was ready and able to help others out. Countless times he helped individuals with vehicle issues, getting them back on the road. Many times, there would be garbage trucks parked in the alley as he troubleshot some issue they were having while the haulers had been running their routes. Brad loved life and fully lived it. He will be greatly missed by many.

Brad is survived by his wife Cathey, parents Elden and Donna (Broz) Luethke, daughters Shayna and Jenna Marschman (Michele Marschman), sons Braeden and Edwin Vollmer (Cathey Luethke), stepsons Austin Dean and Cameron Vollmer (Cathey Luethke), brother Brandon (Susan) Luethke, and nieces Brittney and Briley Luethke.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022 from 11:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. at Elliott Equipment; 1245 Dawes Avenue in Lincoln NE.
