Casey Lee Musgrove

Casey Lee Musgrove, 31, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday December 12, 2017. He was born October 27, 1986 in Lincoln to Julie (Musgrove) Phillips and Robert Patlan. He had a natural aptitude for computer technology. He felt that contributing to The Bay charity was a worthwhile endeavor. He had been trying to overcome obstacles and was looking forward to the possibilities that his future held.

Preceded in death by his father Robert Patlan, his grandfathers Jim Musgrove and Frank Rodriguez. He is survived by his daughter Rayne Musgrove, mother and stepfather Julie and Matt Phillips, sister America Reid, brothers Stormy Overton, Joseph Overton, and Robert Patlan jr., grandmothers Connie Richards, Virginia Patlan, and Cindy Musgrove, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His family would like to recognize Rayne’s mother, Jessica Scanlon, and a grandfather figure, Tom Keller, for the special roles they had in Casey’s life.

A private graveside service was at Wyuka Cemetery, 3600 O Street in Lincoln, Nebraska.

A memorial gathering was at the Lincoln FireFighters Reception Hall at 241 Victory Lane, Lincoln on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for all friends and family.  Many wore a band t-shirt to honor Casey’s love of music.

Cremation. No visitation. Celebration of Life service on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1621 Superior Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for future designation.

Donald E. Watgen

Born October 9, 1952, Don Watgen (Grandpa) passed away December 4, 2017 at home with his loved ones around him. He is survived by his wife Niona (Daisy) Watgen; daughter and son-in-law Candyce, Keven Summers and sons Joseph Watgen and Jason Shield; grandchildren Hunter and Autum Summers and his sister and brother-in-law Donna & Vern Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

Don served in the Army from 1971-1976. He served some of that time over in Germany. Shorty after he discharged from the Army, he married Daisy in August of 1979. They were married for 38 years. Don enjoyed spending his with family friends, he loved going fishing and going to car shows.

Don’s two grandchildren were the light of life, he loved spending his time with them, taking them fishing and raking up piles of leaves for them to jump in.

Don retired when he was 64 but he still always worked. Over the past year he worked part time at InExhaust. He was happy working there. He spoke fondly about the people he worked with. They were like family to him.

Memorial Service on Sunday, December 10, 2017, 10:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. at the Auld Pavilion Building at 1650 Memorial Drive in Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for future designation.

Carol Prentice

Carol Prentice of Lincoln passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on November 9th 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was blessed with steadfast and authentic friends who journeyed with her and she felt deep gratitude for those on the medical and care teams who assisted her with compassion and respect for body and soul. Carol felt a deep calling to serve others by offering whatever resources, abilities and talents she had. As her health and abilities declined, her faith remained strong that, in her passing, a greater Joy and Peace awaited her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kay Prentice. Survived by her father: Gale Prentice, Siblings: George (Julie) Prentice, Gianene (Dave) Burden, and David (Deb) Prentice.

Cremation. No visitation. Rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St John the Apostle Catholic Church, 7601 Vine Street Saturday, 12/02/17 at 11 a.m. Memorial gifts to The League of Human Dignity or St John’s Church.

Joyce Marie Smith

Joyce Marie Smith, 82, passed away on October 31, 2017 at The Independence House in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was the widow of Vaughn Nelson Smith. They shared 43 years of marriage together.

Born January 1, 1935 in Colome, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Frank and Bertha Bertram. She grew up on a farm south of Colome and graduated from Colome High School in 1952. She was united in married to Vaughn Smith on June 27, 1954. In 1961 they moved to Omaha, Nebraska (Millard)

Joyce was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millard, Nebraska over 50 years and will be remembered for her loving care of others.

She was survived by children Cathy Koziol of Cotton Wood, Arizona; Dennis Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren Chelsey Bartholomay of St Petersburg, Florida; and David Koziol of Omaha, Nebraska; sister Maxine Larsen of Colome; and brother Larry Bertram of Colome. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Bertha Bertram; husband Vaughn (1997); son Douglas (2017); and brothers Richard, Allan, Bud, Harold, Willis, Vern, Guy and sisters Lois, Erlene, Millie and Dorothy; and many relatives and friends.

Cremation. No visitation. The memorial service is on November 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 13271 Millard Avenue, Omaha, NE 68137.

Visiting with the family will be prior to the memorial at 9:30 a.m. services will be followed by a lunch at the church.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
