LaVerne J. Bish (Turner) , 96 , died peacefully November 22, 2018 following a short illness. LaVerne was born March 3, 1922, the youngest of eleven children of Charles and Anna Turner in Trumbull, NE. After graduating from Trumbull High School, she trained at Mary Lanning School of Nursing in Hastings, NE. In 1944 she married Cyril Bish of Giltner, NE, her husband of 62 years. She also entered the Nurse Corp of the U.S. Army in 1944 and served until 1945. The family moved to Lincoln in 1954 where they raised two daughters. From 1965 to 1987, she was the Director of Nursing at Milder Manor Nursing Home. LaVerne was passionate about service to others, and she touched many people’s lives. She volunteered at the Lied Center and Bryan Health Medical Center. She was also active in the Presbyterian church, PEO, UNL Faculty Women’s Group and the Fifty-Fifty Bridge Club, and served on committees at the Grand Lodge at the Preserve, where she resided until her death. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cyril, her parents and all of her ten siblings. She is survived by her daughters Musa Campbell of Cincinnati, Sara Evenson of Lincoln and granddaughter Madelynne Campbell of Cincinnati. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd, Lincoln. September 3, 1951 – November, 19, 2018 Pamela (Pam) Renae Kuebler Gardner passed away in her home November 19, 2018. Born September 3, 1951, in Lincoln to Lois (Maupin) Kuebler Valencia and Albert Kuebler. Her husband, Kenny Gardner, preceded her in death. Graduate of Lincoln High School. A retired hairdresser with Fernando’s Salon and Partner’s in Hair for over 30 years. An avid golfer, traveler, and Huskers fan, she made many cherished memories with family and friends. Pam will be remembered by friends and family for her contagious love of life and faithfulness to God. In Pam’s eyes everyone was family and everyone was deeply loved and welcomed with open arms. She was survived by her daughter Lisa (Gardner), son Aaron Gardner, DeBrie, son-in-law Scott DeBrie, brother, Sam Valencia, sister-in-law Sharon Valencia, brother, Gary Kuebler, sister-in-law Mimi Kuebler, cousin Patricia Cleveland, and grandchildren, Austin, Lexi, Andrea, Jessica, and Ryland Gardner. A special thank you to the Tabitha Hospice Team, and Becky and Hillary Whitney with, “Service with a Caring Heart” for helping care for Pam in her final days on earth. An open house celebration of life was held from 1-5 pm Sunday, November 25, at Willard Community Center, 1245 S Folsom St, Lincoln, NE 68522. He had a diverse career background including: ranching/farming (in his youth), educator, carpentry & commercial construction management. Raymond Roger (Ray) Kuhns, 83, Lincoln died Friday November 16, 2018 at The Monarch. He was born on a farm east of Shickley, Nebraska, (12/11/1934) to Joseph & Emma (Roth) Kuhns. He was the last sibling in the family of 11. Ray attended a country school 1 1/2 miles from the farm, then in 1953 he graduated from Shickley High School. He worked for a farmer in the summertime. In his youth he accepted Christ as his personal savior & was baptized into the Mennonite Church. Ray married Gloria Schweitzer on August 21, 1955 at West Fairview Mennonite Church, Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. They spent two years in Denver, Colorado as Ray was in One W service. They moved to Aurora, Ohio & Ray worked in a cement block plant for two years then returned to Lincoln, Nebraska where their three children, Douglas, Chere & Tim were born. Ray worked for Cushman Motors for 10 years. Ray & Gloria moved to Geneva, Nebraska in 1967, where they raised their family. Ray worked at Fillmore County Hospital as ambulance driver, maintenance supervisor, and purchasing for 20 years. He was very active in Faith Mennonite Church serving as Elder, Sunday School Teacher and various projects. Ray & Gloria worked many hours at the MCC Relief Sale in Aurora, Nebraska serving breakfast and working with quilts and blankets. While in Geneva, Ray & Gloria opened their home to 13 foster children. After retirement they managed the Goldenrod Motel in Geneva, were assistant managers of various retirement facilities which took them to Omaha, California, Arkansas and back to Lincoln. Ray was a charter member of First Mennonite Church in Lincoln. He is survived by; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Monica Kuhns, Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law Chere and Michael McCarthy, Liberal, Kansas; son Tim Kuhns, Tucson, Arizona and four grandchildren, Justin Kuhns, Los Angeles, California; Lance Kuhns, Brooklyn, New York; Hilary and Tom Marnejon, Dayton, Ohio; Heidi McCarthy, Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law Dorothy Kuhns and Alma Kuhns and many nieces and nephews. Ray is proceeded in death by his wife Gloria of 53 years; his parents; brothers and sisters; Harold Kuhns, Irene Kuhns (Oswald), Elbert Kuhns, Helen Kuhns (Eichelberger), Donald Kuhns, Lois Kuhns (Saltzman), Kenneth Kuhns, Verlin Kuhns, Dean Kuhns and Joan Kuhns (Troyer). Celebration of Life was held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 3:00 pm at First Mennonite Church (7300 Holdrege), Lincoln, Ne. Casual dress/Husker attire acceptable.
