Francis William “Bill” Darrah
Francis William “Bill” Darrah, 81, of Lincoln passed away July 7, 2019. Born January 2, 1938 in Metuchen, New Jersey to Francis and Jeanette (Markano) Darrah. He completed a 40-year career with Lincoln Electric System (LES) in 1998. He was Assistant Manager of LES’s Operations Division. Darrah “found” Lincoln and his successful electric utility career after a two-year tour with the Army in Fort Dix, NJ, Fort Knox, KY, and as a supply sergeant in Fort Carson, CO. He joined the former Consumers Public Power District in April, 1959. His first assignment was with a tree-trimming crew. He worked his way up the career ladder—from groundman, to cableman splicer, to line foreman in 1971, to service supervisor in 1972, and to his final position in 1974. He served two terms as chairman of the Lincoln Utilities “One Call” Committee. He aided in formation of the group, which deals with information and safety for underground infrastructure. He is a former officer on the advisory board of Northeast Nebraska Technical Community College (linemen’s training courses), and assisted officials and personnel in the Utilities Section of the Nebraska League of Municipalities during technical seminars and training activities. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Lincoln Council on Alcoholism and Drugs from 1981-1984, he was an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. He was active in Lincoln Elks Lodge #80, and he enjoyed playing baseball, softball, bowling, and golf. He especially loved family holiday get-togethers; Christmas was his favorite. Surviving family members include the love of his life of 60 years, wife Margaret; daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Mitch Emmons; son David Darrah; grandson and spouse Jason and Michaela Emmons; great-grandson Henry Emmons; sister Ann Marie Peti; brother Patrick Darrah. Preceded in death by his parents and brother John; sister Antoinette Selesky. Private family service. Memorials to the family for future designation. Barbara J. Horton, 65, of Lincoln, passed away Thursday July 4, 2019. Born December 15, 1953 in Hastings, NE to LaVerne and Evelyn (Parr) Horton. Survivors: Son, Alex Wolfe and wife Jade. Daughter, Katie Kempf and husband Roger. 4 Grandchildren Mother, Evelyn Horton of Hastings; Brothers, Robert Horton, Hastings, Daniel Horton of Hastings. Sisters, Cynthia Dudley of Clovis, Calif., Beverly Sommer of Grand Island, Lisa Marten, Halsey, Peggy Zabloudil, Omaha, Sarah Jurgensmeier, Wahoo. Darla Denise Peterson
Darla D. Peterson, of Fremont, Nebraska passed from this world Friday July 5th, 2019 after battling cancer for several months. She was born February 13, 1969 to Wayne and Dawn Muff in Grand Island, Nebraska, grew up in Lincoln and attended North East High School. She was a long time valued employee at 3M in Valley, Nebraska. She often spoke of her love for her job and her co-workers. She loved riding her motorcycle and spending time with her beloved friends and family. Darla is survived by her father, Wayne. Her children Jade and Mark Fowler and Garret and Kelli Lacey. Niece, Logan Muff. Brothers Andrew(Traci) Bolish and Gary Muff. Her greatest joy in life was her seven grandchildren; Mack, Elisabeth, Joshua, Annalyse, Mason, Benjamin, and Sloan. Darla was loved by many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dawn Muff. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on August 3rd, 2019. Please contact the family for details. Joyce Eileen Miller
Joyce E. Miller 84, of Lincoln passed away July 2, 2019. She was born on April 10, 1935 in York Nebraska, to Harold G. & Francina “Lula” (Cartwright) Rossiter. She was raised in York and graduated high school in 1953. Joyce was united in marriage to Jack L. Miller on July 16, 1958. They made their home in Lincoln at Capital Beach, where they enjoyed boating, water skiing and spending time with friends, family and their beloved dog Mike. Joyce was also a lover of cats and they were her constant companions throughout her life. She was an employee of American Stores for many years before becoming a home health care provider. Helping and taking care people brought Joyce great joy and satisfaction. Survivors include her brother, Don (Joyce) Rossiter, sister, Joan Irmer, nieces, nephews, cousins, her large family of friends and her cat, Sammy. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Jeanne. Her family would like to thank the caregivers at Caring for People, Tabitha Hospice and the staff at Sumner Place, for the care, compassion and love they showed Joyce. No services at this time. A graveside service will come at a later date.
