Lori Anne Allison
Born on November 12, 1960. Passed away on July 19, 2020. Lori Allison was born in Toronto, Ontario to Bill and Margot Allison who immigrated to Canada from Scotland. Lori loved science in school and received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto. She then did postdoctoral research in Paris, France and at Rutgers University that helped pioneer putting foreign genes into plant cells. She came to Nebraska in 1996 to take a faculty position in the UNL Biochemistry Department, where she met her husband, John Markwell. After a half dozen years of teaching and research, she decided to change careers and pursued a Pharm.D. degree from Creighton University and became a pharmacist at CHI St. Elizabeth Hospital. Lori loved cats and was thought of affectionately as a Cat Lady by many that knew her. She loved Sammy from 2000 to 2015 and then doted on Allison, a three-legged rescue cat from 2016 until her passing. Her cats were a major part of her life and shared every year with friends and family on her Christmas cards. She enjoyed knitting and made beautiful, unique gifts for her family members and friends. Wearing red and being an avid Cornhusker fan was a passion of Lori’s, as was visiting National Parks. She was a loving aunt and spoiled her nieces and nephews with candy and fun presents at birthdays and holidays and was a fun and influential part of life for John’s children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking with her husband and trying new foods. Lori is survived by her husband John Markwell and his kids (Tristan and Caitlin), her parents (Bill and Margot), three brothers (Robert, Peter and David), two sisters in law (Patrice and Robin), four nephews (Cameron, Connor, Graham and Thomas) and two nieces (Lauren and Grace). Connie Sue Jones
Connie Sue Jones (Joens) of Lincoln, NE passed away on July 15, 2020 at the age of 58. She was born on May 28, 1962 to Lorriane E. Letscher (Grotzky, Joens) and Arnold Joens of Spencer, IA. She spent 6 years in Spencer, IA where her mother was united in marriage to Marlin Letscher. They then moved to Grand Island, NE where she went to school and played the flute in the band. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1980. She was blessed with a son and twin daughters. Connie was united in marriage to Mike Jones in 1993 and moved to Lincoln. During their 7 years of marriage they were blessed with 2 more daughters. She was a homemaker for most of her adult life which allowed her to be with her children. Connie loved crocheting blankets for her children and loved ones. She also worked for Russ’s Market for 12 years. Connie is survived by her mother and step-father (Lorriane and Marlin Letscher) of Grand Island, NE; children Michael (Ariane) Joens of Lincoln, NE, Maggie (Jon) Ewoldt of Gibbon, NE, Mollie Joens-Matson of Lincoln, NE, Heather (Marcus) Hochstein of Eagle, NE, Heidi Jones of Lincoln, NE; 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; siblings Tony (Karen) Grotzky of Grand Island, NE, Dave Joens of Grand Island, NE, Faye Joens of Grand Island, NE, Jack (Naomi) Letscher of Okinawa, Japan, Jill (Kevin) Simons of Grand Island, NE, and Krystal Joens; and many nieces and nephews. Connie was preceded in death by her father Arnold Joens, maternal and paternal grandparents, and grandson Colby Joens-Matson. A celebration of Connie’s life will be held at a later date. William “Bill” Harold Berge
William “Bill” Berge age 65 passed away peacefully at his home in Lincoln, NE on July 14, 2020. Bill is survived by his children Melissa(James) Friedrich of North Platte, NE; Meagan Hayes(Jeremy Andresen) and Robbie Berge all of Ashland, NE; grandchildren Lucas, Meleah, and Lyndee Friedrich; Macie, Hayden, and Pennie Hayes, and Dodge Schofield Berge; Mother Betty Kaupa and brother Martin”Brad” Berge of Lincoln, NE; nephew and niece Daniel and Micaela Berge; and great nephew Logick Berge; many other family and friends. Marvin James Louthan
From Lincoln, Nebraska. Born on June 7, 1943. Passed away on July 12, 2020. Marvin graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961 and from Southeast Community College on 1967. He married Kathy Reetz June 23, 1967. Marvin retired in 2008 from the Nebraska State Patrol Communications with 38 years of service. Marvin is preceded in death by his son Jeffraey in 1972. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his daughter Jennifer Louthan, his son Kevin Louthan and 4 grand cats. Memorial service Friday, July 17th at 10:30 am at Messiah Lutheran Church 1800 S. 84th Street.
