Edith “EdaRee” Marie Eckblade
Obituary for Edith M. (Eda Ree) Eckblade, age 91 years, 10 months, 12 days. (b. June 22, 1929; d. May 13, 2021) Eda Ree Eckblade of Juniata, NE, died May 13 in Lincoln. Edith (Eda Ree) was born in 1929 in Dickenson, ND, to parents Clara (Weiland) and Rev. Nathaniel Hass. Her family lived in Pingree, ND, and then moved to Chadron, NE, where her father pastored a church. She attended school in Chadron and graduated from the Preparatory High School in 1947. She moved with her parents after WWII to Omaha, where she attended the University at Omaha (UNO) and earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. After graduation, she worked for the Crosley appliance company traveling and demonstrating their products. In Omaha, she met the love of her life and husband of 50 years, C. James Eckblade. They were married on Aug. 12, 1953, in Riverside, CA, where her parents had retired. Jim and Eda Ree came to live in Nebraska, first in Lincoln, where their first two daughters were born, and then in 1959 moved to Hastings where two more daughters were added to the family. She and Jim retired to Juniata in the home where she lived until Jan. 2020. Along with being a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Eda Ree was loyal volunteer, involved with many organizations in Hastings including the YWCA, domestic violence task force, foster care review board, family planning, senior/aging services, public library, Adams county elections, and several women’s circle groups at her church, 1st Congregational UCC. Eda Ree was blessed to travel regularly across the country and to parts of Europe, Mexico, and Alaska, and to spend time with family at their beloved lake cabin. She was passionate about cooking, sewing, classical music, and reading, which she enjoyed long into her later years. Eda Ree was preceded in death by her husband, Jim (2003), her parents and in-laws, six siblings and spouses. She is survived by her daughters and spouses, Becky (Dan) Higgins, of Lincoln, Miriam Eckblade (Jim Boelter) of Omaha, Anita (Mark) Schaepe of Lincoln, Emily (Jeff) Weak of Omaha; grandchildren Erik (Marie) Higgins, Brita Higgins, Nathan (Katie) Schaepe, Reuben Schaepe, Katie M. Schaepe, Stefan (Sara) Schaepe, Charles, Rudy, Lilly, & Naomi Weak; 6 great grandchilden: Josiah, Lillian, Miqueas, Cecilia, Lucy, and Alvin; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betsy” Hass, Riverside, CA, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services pending for July in Hastings, internment in Stromsburg, NE. Richard “Dick” W. Babst
Born in Geneva, NE, on Nov. 2, 1938, to Elmer and Albie Babst and passed away May 12, 2021. Graduated from Geneva High School in 1956. Worked for Safeway in Geneva until attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. earning a teachers degree. He received his masters from Colorado State U. Dick taught in Columbus Public Schools and Randolph Public Schools. Coached basketball in both schools. Married Faye (Craig) Babst on June 11,1966 in the Ev. Free Church in Columbus, NE. They had 3 sons. Survived by : Wife Faye, Sons: Doug (Stacy) Colorado Springs; Mike (Rocio) Babst, Homestead, FL; and Greg (Niki) Babst, Wahoo, NE Grandsons: Jackson, Ben, Faith, Destiny, Asher, Lily, Annie, and Sam Babst, Colorado Springs; Jonathan, Daniel Babst, Homestead, FL; Kyle, Calvin, and Quentin, Wahoo, NE. Halley Ray Hansen
Halley Hansen, 35, of Lincoln passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2021 following a courageous battle with a Traumatic Brain Injury after being struck in the crosswalk on May 15, 2018. Halley was named by her father, Mountain Top, expecting that she might be one of a select few with the name to see the famous Halley’s comet twice in their lifetime. Halley loved church and school. Her teachers called her a gift with her positive attitude and caring heart. She was quick to reach out to others who needed help or comfort, faithful to applaud others for their accomplishments, and welcome new students. Halley loved to read and acquired a grand library and passed on the love of reading to many, including her son who had a nice collection of books himself at a very young age. She received numerous awards for educational excellence and degrees. Halley graduated from Southeast High, received her BSBA from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and did post graduate studies at Creighton University for her MBA. Halley enjoyed family vacations, youth retreats, VBS, and Camp Lexington. She loved Sunday school at First Assembly of God and was an active member of the youth group at Christ Place Assembly of God. Halley was a lifelong member of the Danish Brotherhood of America and treasured her Danish heritage and traditions. Halley had unrelenting determination and put forth great effort in all she did. She was a good mother and loved her son deeply. Korrigan was the pride and joy of her life. Halley is survived by her beloved son, Korrigan Riley O’Neal of Lincoln; parents Greg “Mountain Top” and Sharyn Hansen; brother Tyler (Melissa) Hansen and children: Dominick, Abigail, Alyse, & Mallory of Unadilla; loving grandmother Arla Mae Hansen of Bennet. Proceeded in death by grandparents Carl and Gladys Hines; grandfather Paul Hansen of Bennet. Memorial Service: 11:30 am. May 15, 2021 at Elevate Church, 8251 Pioneers Blvd, Lincoln. Rev.
