Donna Marie McElvain
Donna Marie (Ziegler) McElvain was born January 17, 1953, in Holdrege, Nebraska. She passed away Monday, September 5th, 2022 at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was the only child of Elva I. (Schnuerle) and Robert K. Ziegler. Donna grew up on a farm east of Holdrege. She began her formal education as a member of the first all-day, one-semester Kindergarten class at Funk School. She attended Funk School through 8th grade, and continued on to complete grades 9-12 at Holdrege Junior and Senior High schools. With the surname Ziegler, she was the last member of the class of 1971 to cross the stage and receive her diploma. She was united in marriage with Richard (Dick) Robert McElvain on August 12, 1973 at the United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska. Donna knew she wanted to be a nurse for as long as she could remember, and she started her nursing career as an aide at Phelps Memorial Health Center while in high school. She graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing in 1975, and later received her Master’s of Science in Nursing in 1993. Her career as a registered nurse spanned 43 years in a variety of roles. She retired from the faculty of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing, Lincoln Division, in 2018. Richard and Donna raised their family in Holdrege, where they were also active in school and community organizations including Trinity Evangelical Free Church. Their door was always open, and one never knew how many faces might be around the dinner table when their sons were in high school. In 2004, Richard and Donna moved to Lincoln and became active members of Lincoln Berean Church. After they both retired, the couple traveled to The British Isles in 2018, and Israel in 2019 where Donna was baptized in the Jordan River. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard McElvain, sons David (Micayla) McElvain of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Duane (Krisann) McElvain of Madison, Wisconsin, grandson Matthew, and close family friend Michelle Tafoya. She will also be greatly missed by her sisters- and brothers-in-law, a host of nieces and nephews, and many more family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elva and Robert. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lincoln Berean Church, 6400 S. 70th, Lincoln, NE. A family visitation will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2022 for those who cannot attend the Thursday service, at Lincoln Berean Church from 5:00-7:00pm. The inurnment will be on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 10:30am at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Down Syndrome Alliance of the Midlands, 10824 Old Mill Road, Suite 8, Omaha NE, 68154, or a charity of the donor’s choice in Donna’s remembrance. Cameron Lee Zabokrtsky
Cameron Lee Zabokrtsky of Cortland, Nebraska – formerly Topeka, Kansas, passed in his sleep on Sunday September 4, 2022 with his wife and friends by his side. Cameron was born in Beatrice, Nebraska. He moved to Topeka, Kansas when he was five years old. He attended Lyman elementary, Logan Junior High, and graduated from Seaman High School in 1980. Cameron was always a hard worker who had many jobs. One of the jobs he loved the most and was very talented at was being a Glassman. He went on to own his own business, packing and moving for the military. A business he was devoted to up until his diagnosis with cancer. Cameron was proceeded in death by his daughter, Rachel M. Zabokrtsky, Grandparents Edith Payne, Emil and Alice Zabokrtsky, many aunts and uncles, and many close friends. Cameron is survived by his wife Deedra Zabokrtsky, Daughters Arial and Aleta Zabokrtsky, Stepdaughters Lesa Morrison (Robbie and Granddaughter Lyla) and Amy Karr of Cortland, NE. Ex-wife Traci Rabb, Sons Travis Zabokrtsky (Granddaughter Elee and Grandson Kaleb), Shawn Zabokrtsky. Ex-wife Angi Adams, Son Chaz Zabokrtsky (Kayla Finley and Grandson Elliot) and Stepdaughter Raeley Rickell, of Topeka, KS. Brothers, Brian Zabokrtsky (Rita), Clark Zabokrtsky (Carol) of Topeka, KS. Michael Osborn, Pat (Kyle) Osborn, Bobby Osborn of Osage City, KS. Sister Claudia Rogers (Walt) of Topeka, KS. Grandfather Claude Payne of Topeka, KS. As well as many nieces and nephews. Cameron’s wish was to be cremated. A service will be announced at a later date and will be held in Topeka, KS. Franklin Eugene Samples “Gene”
Reunited with the Lord and his Son. Born December 3, 1953. Passed away August 31, 2022. Gene was born to Gerald & Eldeen (Collins) Samples in Grand Island NE in 1953. Gene was blessed with another mother in 1957 when Gerald married Janett (Speth) Sell. Gene attended Clatonia Schools and after consolidation he attended Wilber-Clatonia School. He was an avid sports participant in Basketball and Track where he held numerous records for many years. Gene’s work ethic started while he was a younger man by helping numerous farmers around the Clatonia and Wilber areas. After Graduation in 1972 he joined the Armed Forces following family members. He joined the United States Air Force in June of 1972 and was Honorably discharged in September of 1974 with a Rank of E3. In 1975 Gene married Linda Villines and from this union a son was born April 18, 1976 and passed on May 24, 1980. Gene was well known for his carpentry as well as his roofing skills. He was a son, father, husband, brother, uncle as well as a great uncle and a great great uncle, teacher and a FRIEND to all. Gene taught many of his nephews as well as siblings how to roof and do some carpentry. He always said to take pride in your work and no one can take that from you. Gene’s passions were the Lord as well as the Bible. Anything that had to do with the Outdoors was where he wanted to be. Close to the Lord and the beauty he created. Helping his family, friends and the friends he hadn’t met yet was a love of his as well. Survived by siblings Gary (Linda) Samples, Ed Samples, Jim Samples, Cindy (Allen) Zajicek, Cheryl Bice, Candy Jones, Kevin (Nancy) Samples, Gerald (Shirley) Samples, Chris (David) Lane, Carin Jelinek, Aunt and Uncle along with many Nieces and Nephews as well as large Family of Friends. Preceded in Death by Son Adin, Parents Gerald & Janett, Mother Eldeen, Brothers Bruce Sell, Robert Sell and Sister Cathy Meyer, nephews Jacob Samples, Dillon Samples. Donald E. Wischmann
Born on April 8, 1936. Passed away on August 30, 2022. Don was born on April 8, 1936 and was from Ashland Nebraska where he lived until he married Lois Stolley. On April 10, 1964 he then moved to Lincoln. Don worked for BNSF at the Havelock shops holding many different positions and keeping everyone on their toes until he retired after 40 some years. In December of 1989 he and Lois bought a farm and moved to Valparaiso, Nebraska where he farmed and raised cattle until he could no longer get in the field. Don is survived by his two sons Mark Lincoln Jon (Kristel) Valparaiso, Nebraska; Grandchildren Dustin Lena (Hayden) Tim (Krystal) Asa (Jessica) Danny (Veronica); Great Grandchildren Asher Madison Brielle Tyson Hailey Emiya Fenix Christian Penelope Ariella; Brothers and Sisters Bob George (Karen) Paul (Dian) Helen (Dennis) and Leona; Many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
