Mary Joyce Alloway-Herbek

April 7, 1940 to November 8, 2021

Preceded in death by Husband Roger Alloway; Son, Roger Allen Alloway; Father, Harold D. Long; Mother, Margaret A. Plock; and Step-father Leroy W. Plock.

She is survived by children Joyce (Roy) Harrington of Crete, Douglas Howe of Lincoln, Kenneth (Roxy) Howe of Crete, Robert (Linda) Howe of Saint Petersburg, FL, Eric Alloway of Malcolm, and Shawna Neujahr (daughter-in-law) Gibbon, 20 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren. Her siblings Elaine Scheil, Butch (Elizabeth) Long, Pamela (Paul) Schmitz and Leroy (Rhonda) Plock.

Mary grew up in McCool Junction and Fairmont, NE.  She spent most of her adult life in Hastings, where she worked at Great Plains Packaging, during those years she went back to school to earn her Associates Degree from Central Community College. Mary spent several years in Harvard before moving to Arizona, moving back to Malcolm a year ago.  She enjoyed fishing, camping, and socializing but most of all loved spending time with her family. Especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 10:30 at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE.  Celebration of Life will follow at 11:30 at United Church of Christ in Harvard, NE.  Memorials are in care of the family for future designation. (Feel free to wear casual attire.)

Gary D Hansel

Gary Dwaine Hansel was born May 28, 1947 at St. Elizabeth hospital to Melvin and Helen (Eirick) Hansel.  He graduated from Lincoln Northeast in 1966.

He was drafted into the Army in 1967 on his dad’s birthday.  He fought in the VietNam War during the TET Offense.

He returned to Lincoln and worked at American Stores for 13 years.  He also joined the Army Reserves.  He married Sharon Davis and they had 2 sons, Gary Dale in 1971 and Ronnie in 1973 (deceased 8/6/2008)

He married Linda Gammel on November 18, 1979.  (The 4th generation to be married that day.) They had 2 sons, Shawn in 1981 and Tyler in 1984.  Gary joined the Air National Guards in 1983.  He retired 5/26/2007 with the rank of Chief  Master Sargent.

He was a Security Guard with Lincoln Public Schools at Southeast High School from 2007-2014, He touched many lives with his positive attitude, humor and advice.

Gary was a member of the Nebraska Military Retiree Council and the American Legion of Denton. Gary was a Docent for Museum of American Speed.

He loved driving his ’69 Chevy Chevelle, golfing, fishing and playing at the casinos or scratch off tickets.  He was the neighborhood handyman.

He will be missed by family and more friends than we knew we had.

Survivors:  Wife Linda of 42 years, Sons Gary, Shawn, and Tyler (Audra) Hansel.  Grandchildren:

Chloe, Noah, Adi, and Jovie.  Brother Terry (Debbie) Hansel, Sister Sandy (Ed) Griggs.  Nieces, nephews, So Many special friends.

Eleanor Ruth Harrop

Eleanor was born on July 18, 1929 to Irwin and Mildred Steeves of Panama, Ne and passed on July 5, 2021.

Eleanor grew up in Panama and attended Panama High School where she was a member of the championship volleyball team.  Eleanor met her husband Bob at a Roca vs Panama basketball game and they were married on August 19, 1947.

She retired from the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Panama after 30 years.  She enjoyed working in the yard, camping and cooking (as was evident in her over 100 cookbooks) and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include:  Son Robert (Kathy) Harrop, daughter Roxann (Jim) Craig all of Panama.  Grandchildren:  Travis (Janice) Harrop, Stacy Harrop, Tiffany Harrop and husband Mario Carl, Kendra (Jake) Yurka and Melissa (Clester) Johnson.  11 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Brother Cloyd (Donna) Steeves, sister-in-law Shirley Miller and her two cats, Murphy and Suzy.   Preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas, sister and brother-in-law, Eudice and Dutch Krogman, brother-in-law Duane Miller, great granddaughter Millie Mae Harrop and great great grandson Jerimiah Perkins.

Memorial Service on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Panama Presbyterian Church, 201 Pine Street in Panama, NE.

Graveside service on Friday also at 10:00 a.m. at the Panama Cemetery.
