Anne Baker, 82, died  Monday, March 11, 2019. Born in Richmond, Indiana to Emmett J. and Roberta J. (Brooks) Wright. Graduated from Centerville, Indiana High School.

Arts and crafts were one of her hobbies and she made the family Christmas card for over 50 years. Hand-painted eggs on the lawn at Easter were the hit of the neighborhood. Travel was always a joy.  She has been in every state of the United States and in most of the Canadian provinces and territories.

Foreign visitors, including three exchange students, were always welcome in the home.

Anne was most comfortable in the kitchen; sharing her love and affection through innumerable meals with good food and good friends.  Working in food settings, including fifteen years running consessions for teachers, students and athletic events at Lincoln High, was always a joy. She was known for the variety of salads she served to teachers during lunchtime. She loved babies and young children – helping many get a warm and caring start in life. Exploring connections between people was important. She saw all of us as a part of a broader community.

Survived by Maurice, her husband of 61 years, son Kyle (Demarie) Baker, Monroe, Wisconsin; daughter Cora Lou Gupton (Scott), Commerce City, Colorado; daughter, R. Brooke Baker (Cal Zunt), Lakewood, Ohio; grandchildren, Shelby Gupton, Donovan Baker, Sullivan Baker; brother-in-law William Taylor, sisters-in-law Carolyn Wright and Ann Hart.

Preceded in death by parents, sister, Marcia Taylor and brother, Mark Wright; step-father, Robert Sheffer.

Cremation.  Celebration of Life 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30th at St Paul United Methodist Church, 1244 M Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of your choice.

Donald “Don” Eugene Brown

Don passed away peacefully at age 90 on February 8, 2019 at Sumner Place under the considerable care of Sumner Place and Hospice Community Care of Nebraska. Up until the moment he went to be with the Lord, he was surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.

Don was born and raised in the heart of Kansas to John Brown and Fayetta (Brown-Dunn). Growing up, he was especially fond of horses and favored Smokey his black horse. As a young man he worked at Boeing to support the World War II effort.

Don’s occupation was as a glazer; cutting, installing and setting glass. He later transitioned to resort and motel management oversight. This gave him the unique opportunity to work alongside his wife everyday which he and his wife thoroughly enjoyed.

Don was a master at improvising to make things work and was a gifted handyman. His sons and daughters were truly convinced there was nothing mechanical he couldn’t fix or build. Among his interests, he had a lifelong love affair with the automobile. Part of this love was his talent to create a fair deal for everyone.

It was his great delight to turn the city corners on two wheels. On one of those occasions his wife-to-be first took notice of him. He married Alice on Valentine’s Day 1949 who preceded him in death. He is survived by seven children. Three sons: Darrell and wife Jean, Terry and wife Joan, John and wife Lois and four daughters, Debby and husband Michael, Susan and husband Rod, Robin and husband Gordon, Diana and husband Brent.  Thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Don’s memorial service was held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 11 at Southview Baptist Church, 3434 South 13th St., Lincoln, Nebraska.  Burial at Rosehill Cemetery in Waverly, Nebraska at a later date.
