Virginia Lee Nilson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Virginia “Ginny” Lee Nilson, age 73, on Sunday, January 18th, 2026.
Born on December 1st, 1952 in Lincoln, NE to Carl & Marilyn (Kerr) Nilson. Ginny spent her formative years there where she developed a love for reading and animals of all kinds, especially dogs and cats. She graduated from Crete High School and then joined the United States Navy. Ginny was very proud of her service and went on to pursue a career with Veteran’s Affairs where she showed great dedication and passion for our nation’s veterans and their causes.
Ginny loved her kids, grandkids and great grandchild. She cherished the time she was able to spend with them during holidays and at family gatherings. She always had a warm smile and a generous heart that touched everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Carl (Pamela) Brauneis, Jessica (Michael) Wemhoff, Joe (Jen) Brauneis, Mary Brauneis, and Stephanie (Austin) Sailors, grandchildren Cote, Brayden, Kalli, Aubree, Desarey, Nikolai, Sebastian, Isabella, and Stevie, and great grandchild Saylor, sisters Teresa DeSchuiteneer, Jamie Nemeroff, her brother Bill Swope, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, yet to be determined. Friends and family are invited to share their memories and honor Ginny’s life.
Ginny will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
