Condolences for Thomas Stephen Shores
Tom was a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at University of Nebraska Lincoln for over four decades (1968-2010) and had a large set of research interests spanning algebra, mathematical modeling, numerical analysis and more. He has served in several leadership roles, including Vice-Chair and Acting Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and made significant contributions to the department. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
So sorry to hear about Tom–he was always smiling and a friendly colleague in the Math Dept. May happy memories comfort you.
My sincere condolences to the family of Prof. Thomas Stephen Shores. Kazuo Yamazaki, Department of Mathematics, UNL.
To the family and friends of Tom Shores:
I worked with Tom in the Mathematics Department from 1986 until his retirement in 2010. I always found him to be a helpful and friendly colleague, and I am very sorry to hear of his passing. Please accept my sincerest condolences.
I am thankful for having you as my colleague, and for your friendship and support. Wish you a wonderful life in the heaven.
Tom was one of the faculty who made me feel most welcome when I came to the department in 1989. I always enjoyed working together when we taught sections of the same course. We always sent our students to each other’s grad courses, and Tom’s students were inevitably among the best in those classes.
I am very sorry to hear this sad news and I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences.
Tom was an excellent research mathematician, a popular teacher, a fine departmental citizen, and a good friend. In particular, Tom and Roger wrote several significant papers classifying those commutative rings whose finitely generated modules are direct sums of cyclics. Later Tom switched to applied mathematics, where he also made important contributions. More recently we have appreciated Tom’s insightful and pertinent letters to the newspapers. We shall miss him. Our condolences go out to his family at this time.
Tom was a wonderful colleague and friend. We both started at the university in 1968 and were friends with Tom & Muriel for many years.
Our deepest sympathy to Tom’s family and friends.
Tom and I were colleagues in the UNL Department of Mathematics from 1971 until his retirement. He was a valuable colleague who excelled in all parts of the job. I am very sorry to learn of his passing.
It was a pleasure having Tom as a colleague. I’m sorry for your loss.
Richard
Please accept our condolences. Tom was a wonderful colleague and, more importantly, a wonderful person.
