September 27, 1957 – April 20, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Marla Rae Miller, who departed this world peacefully in her sleep on April 20, 2026, at Southlake Village, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on September 27, 1957, Marla was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond (Ray) and Marcella Maxine Clawson (Bohmont).

Marla’s journey began in Hickman, Nebraska, where she was born and nurtured in a home filled with love, music, and compassion. At the age of four, the family moved to Martell, Nebraska. She graduated from Crete High School in 1975 before pursuing further education at the Lincoln School of Commerce. Her career was marked by her unwavering dedication to service and care for others. Marla initially served as a receptionist at Zion Presbyterian Church for six years before transitioning to a role as a chore and respite care provider for the State of Nebraska, a position she held for a decade. She also co-ran a successful cleaning business with friends, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit.

Her career path reflected her nurturing nature, as she later worked as a caregiver for Region V (Apace) for six years, and then dedicated eight years to the Wics Home for Girls before retiring. Marla’s professional life was a testament to her empathy and commitment to making a positive impact on those around her.

Marla’s love for music, particularly the accordion, started at a tender age of four. She shared this joy with the world as a member of the Polka Queens Band, where her melodies brought happiness to many. Her heart was as expansive as her talents, reflected in her 30-year membership with the Southwest Fire Society, where she supported firefighters on long calls, providing them with refreshments and care. Her community involvement extended to the Princeton Countryside Alliance and the Southwest Alliance, where she actively contributed for a combined fourteen years.

Marla’s warmth extended beyond her immediate family. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Melissa Raye Miller, and an adoring grandmother to Trevor (Jordin) McLachlan, Dylan McLachlan, Sienna McLachlan, and Gavin McLachlan. Her life also touched her former spouse, James Miller, and former son-in-law, Justin McLachlan, as well as her honorary grandchildren, Logan Schafer, Chryslynn Nelson, and Morgan Hagel.

Known for her wit and wisdom, Marla had a heart that embraced everyone she met. Her gentle spirit and deep compassion for animals were evident in her eagerness to help any creature in need. She cherished singing with her grandchildren, listening to music, and baking—especially during the cherished time when her daughter Melissa lived with her. Marla’s empathy and authenticity were the cornerstones of her character, endearing her to all who knew her.

Marla was predeceased by her beloved parents, Ray and Marcella Clawson, and her fiancé, Mike Nagengast. Her legacy lives on through her surviving family members and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey.

A celebration of Marla’s life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Southlake Village Rehabilitation & Care Center, located at 9401 Andermatt Dr, Lincoln, NE 68526. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Melissa Miller to assist with funeral expenses.

Marla Rae Miller’s life was a symphony of love, compassion, and service. Her memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her, reminding us all of the profound impact of a life lived with kindness and grace.
