Lyndall Duane Watson

Lyndall Duane Watson 92 of Ashland, Nebraska passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at Oxbow Living Center in Ashland, Nebraska.

He was the fifth of six children  born to Hugh Franklin Watson and Era Etta (Rollins) Watson on July 14, 1927 at Oakland, Pottawatamie County, Iowa.  He attended school at Broadwater, Nebraska and graduated from Broadwater High School in the class of 1945.

He was a farmhand until he entered into the Army October 14, 1950 in Denver, Colorado.  He was in Co. H 179th Inf Regt 45th Div APO 86 as a Munitions Handler.  He was awarded the Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze star, United National Service Medal, 1 Overseas Bar, Combat Infantry Badge March 6, 1952.  Separated from the Army at Camp Carson Colorado and honorably discharged.

He married Nellie Willa Jean “Willajean” Mansfield December 14, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Ashland, Nebraska and lived at Scottsbluff, Nebraska until 1957 when they moved to Ashland.

He started working for CB&Q railroad at Havelock Shops in 1957 as a laborer then became a helper then was a carman until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of the Ashland Saddle Club, Silver Squares square dance club, Grange, was a Mason, and a member of American Legion Post 129.

He is survived by his three sons and wives, Richard (Cathy) Watson, Ashland, Jack (Carolyn) Watson, Ashland, Bryan (Valerie) Watson, Lincoln, 5 grand children and three great-grand children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Charles Franklin Watson, sister Daurine Marie (Watson) Baker, sister Elora Blanche (Watson) Morris, sister Verle Marilyn (Watson) Beal, and brother Hubert Henry Watson.

On Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. a graveside service was at the Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, Nebraska. A family visitation followed at the Ashland United Methodist Church, 1442 Adams St, Ashland, NE.
