Douglas Carl Wetzel
Douglas Carl Wetzel, 54, of Lincoln, NE passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019.
Doug was preceded in death by his father Richard Austin Wetzel, MD and brother Robert Bruce Wetzel. He is survived by his wife Jeanne of Lincoln, NE; sons Jordan Wetzel of Iowa City, IA and Peyton Wetzel of Lincoln, NE; step-daughter Kelly Neuhaus of Lincoln, NE ; mother Margaret Wetzel of Bloomfield Hills, MI; sisters Valerie Wetzel of Platteville, WI and Karen (Atulya) Saraf of Katy, TX; cousins Donna (Gary) Hipp, Cindy (Matthew) Self, and Jeff (Noelle) Pope.
Doug spent 28 years working in Public Service for the Nebraska and South Dakota State Penitentiaries. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He was a lifelong Detroit Redwings fan, loved Nebraska football, beaches, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, boisterous laugh, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He was a loving husband, father, and true friend to all that knew him.

A celebration of Doug’s life and visitation with family will be held on Sunday, September 15th from 1-4 pm at Lincoln Firefighter’s Reception Hall located at 241 Victory Ln, Lincoln, NE 68528. Family and friends will begin speaking at 2:00 pm.
Family requests donations in his honor to be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Doug was like a father figure to me. He helped me and guided me through my career and life. He gave me strong advice that I will never forget. He made a big impact in my life.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Doug was my partner when I worked in BBay at NSP. I would have never made it through the day without his humor and dedication that we all came out at the end of our shifts. Doug was such a great person to be around.

Doug & I became friends immediately; he was extremely fun to work with and play Softball with as a team mate. He came to help us out one time at work. I offered him a cup of coffee but could not find a cup so was going to get him one in a office. He did not want to be a bother so took a spoonful of coffee and ate it and went to work. I swear have not met such a considerate kind human being in my life. Doug was a great example for all on how to live life to it’s fullest and to be of service to fellowman. Am sure with my dad have another Loving Guardian Angel looking down on us wishing us happiness, and not wanting us to be sad about his absence
Doug, you were a great friend and mentor. A lot of what I know about corrections came from you. You were always willing to work with me and teach me the right way to do things. I will miss your smile and your sense of humor.
It broke my heart when I found out that Doug passed. He was such a great guy and friend. I will never forget the amazing memories we had spending time on the weekends and having such amazing laughs. He will be missed tremendously. Love you Doug. You will be missed but you will never be forgotten.

I am sorry for your lost. I worked with CW. Wetzel for couple years. I found him one of the greatest person with great personalities. He thought me great things which help me daily bases on the job. I miss him. RIP bro………….
Deepest condolences to the family. I lived across the street from Doug until I moved out in 2014. Enjoyed his yard and home and chuckled at his enthusiasm to snow-blow the street. I didn’t get to know him or his family, but it looks like he was a wonderful man and an entertaining co-worker.

I met Doug and his beautiful wife when he was doing physical therapy at Bryan Hospital. I instantly fell in love him and his wife and prayed with him. I kept in touch periodically after. Just know Jeanne, I have parlayed for you and love you
