Jimmie Dale Phillips
Jimmie Dale Phillips was born in Paragould, Arkansas, March 29th, 1933, to Paul and Ruby Phillips. He had 2 brothers, Jackie and Billie. After high school in Paragould, Jimmie married Elna Marie Moss. They had 4 children, Dale Marie, Jerry Don, Terri Kaye, and Danny Paul, each 2 years apart. They moved to Nebraska in 1959. He traveled the mid-west selling shoes for International Shoe Company. Anyone who knew Jim at all has heard stories of his traveling days! Jim worked in sales his entire life, selling cars at several dealerships in Lincoln. It wasn’t until he was in his seventies that he started driving the courtesy van for DuTeau Chevrolet. He reluctantly retired just a few short years ago.
Jimmie never met a stranger, and he always had a colorful joke to tell. He attended Nebraska football games for 20 years during the Devaney and Osborne days. He loved his neighbors on Broadmoore Dr, and those families became lifelong friends. As his children grew up and started their own families, he became an adored grandfather. He has 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Jim was rarely ill and enjoyed good health until the last few months, After a month in the hospital and several complications (heart, kidneys, lungs), he’d had enough! As he put it “I’ve seen 17,000 doctors and none of them can tell me what happened!” He died peacefully in his sleep with Elna beside him.

Condolences for Jimmie Dale Phillips
Elna, My thoughts are with you as you begin to cope with Jimmie’s passing. I enjoyed having you as Shirl Drive neighbors.

Its been such a sad start to 2019. I feel very lucky to have been a part of the neighborhood and the Phillips family. Every time I ran into Jimmie he always had a big smile and a great laugh. Unfortunately moving away from Lincoln did not allow me to see the old neighborhood friends very often. Now that most of the role models that I grew up with are gone it saddens me to think of times I missed out on with not only my own family but all the people I grew up with. My Sincere condolences to the Phillips family. Jimmie will be greatly missed.
“Jimmie never met a stranger.” Very true. I was in Lincoln for a Nebraska game with Jerry and spent a weekend at Jim and Elna’s home. They made me feel like a special member of the family, and couldn’t do enough to make me feel at home. Jim’s warmth and wit will be missed.
I miss you already, Papa. I can hardly imagine this summer without you grilling me something fabulous, while I hang out on Shirl Dr. I’ll miss that banter between you and mom, especially at bedtime, when y’all had a little comedy routine. “Good night, Irene” or Lola, or whatever name you were calling her. “Good night, Pumpkin” she’d reply. Then of course I had to call you Pumpkin too, just to be cute. She always asked if you’d put the garage door down, after that night the cops rang your doorbell at 4 a.m. You’d ask her if she’d taken her pills. “Don’t want you getting pregnant”. (I’d cover my ears!) I hope we meet again in one of those houses in heaven that you liked to talk about! I smile just thinking about it….
Sorry to hear about uncle Jimmy
I know what it is like to lose a Dad.My heart goes out to you all.
My memories of Uncle Jimmie are of a man who was always smiling and teasing all those around him. And I remember Daddy, Uncle Jimmie and Uncle Billie, with aprons on, making an elaborate ordeal of washing the dishes after one of our holiday dinners. One other memory is the summer our entire family traveled to Lincoln. Uncle Jimmie and Aunt Ulna were so warm and gracious. They made entertaining and feeding seven additional people seem like an everyday occurrence.
My heart goes out to Aunt Elna, Dale, Jerry, Terry, Danny and your families. Thankfully God has a plan for us to spend eternity with Him. I will be praying for you.
