Paul James Magee

featured image

CWO3 Paul James Magee of Lincoln, NE passed away at age 59 on September 4, 2023. He passed due to complications from burn pit exposure in Iraq. He was given six months to live and courageously fought for three years. His celebration of life will take place at 11 am on Saturday, September 16th at Grace Lutheran Church, 2225 Washington St. Lincoln, NE. Luncheon immediately following. Livestream link available at www.facebook.com/glclincoln.

He was born on June 27, 1964 to Gerald (Jerry) H. Magee and Olivia (Sam) A. (Schroeder) Magee, in the elevator at Lincoln General. He couldn’t wait to be born. Graduating from Malcolm High School in 1982, he worked rental construction until his mother finally caved and let him join the Marines. He served in the Marines from 1983 – 1987. He took a break to start his business, Magee Remodel, with continued success for 31 years. He graduated from Southeast Community College with a degree in Construction Management in 1990 while at the same time starting a family. Paul (Bubba) joined the Navy in 1992 and became a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the Seabees. He served two active-duty tours; Iraq 2007-2008 and Afghanistan 2012-2013. His experience and leadership skills helped him to earn the respect of his peers and his troops. He reluctantly retired in 2015 as a decorated veteran.

He was an active member in the Lincoln Gun Club for 40 years. He enjoyed helping his church, Zion Lutheran with mowing the lawn and any building needs that they had. He was dedicated to his local VFW chapter with gathering donations at Christmas and Poppy donations. His favorite part of the VFW was throwing popsicles to the kids in the Wilber Czech Day Veteran’s Parade.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman. He truly loved being out in a deer stand, no matter what kind of weather, or running around the Sandhills looking for the perfect mule to bring back home. Anytime he could get a bobber in the water he was his happiest, especially when there was a kiddo along. He loved making breakfast over an open campfire after spending the night in his camper. He tried new recipes for camping and perfecting old family favorites. He was not one to turn down a good drink with friends.

Survived by his children; Mandy Magee and Josh Magee of Lincoln. Mother Olivia (Sam) Magee of Lincoln. Siblings; Dana (Mike) Melroy of WV, Shane (Tammy) Magee of TX, Deanna (Ron) Ruff of Bennet, Rudy (Angela) Magee of Murray. Aunt Cathy (Steve) Kloch of Alliance. Nieces and Nephews; Devin Melroy, Samantha Chambers, Bailey Magee, Connor Ruff and Morgan Fine. Great Niece and Nephew Bastian and Eleanor, children of cousin, Crissy Kloch of Alliance. Dearly loved Ashley, John and grandchildren Ayva and Jackson Keady of Lincoln. As well as numerous cousins, extended family and furry companion Clyde.

Preceded in death by son Jeremiah James Magee, Father Gerald (Jerry) H. Magee. Grandparents; Rudolph and Nora Schroeder, Hugh and Serna Magee. Along with his beloved dog, Ben.

    Sam, Deanna & Ron,
You have my thoughts and prayers. I never knew him but I have heard so much about him from you and I know he was very special to Conner. I’m so sorry that he and you had to go through this. He was very young but it sounds like he got a lot into those years

It was honor and a privilege to serve with Paul McGee in the CB’s and Naval Reserve Center, Lincoln, NE. I was fortunate to talk with Paul shortly before he left. I told him how proud I was of him for all his accomplishments in civilian life and military life. He will truly be missed, but not forgotten. Rest in Peace Shipmate and until we see each other again calm seas and fair winds.
