Steven L. Crisler
Steven (Steve) Crisler, age 66, of Lincoln passed away on August 18, 2022 with family by his side. Steve was born to Janet Fuller (Hanshew) and Harold Crisler on March 10, 1956.
His early childhood years were spent in Franklin, NE where he learned to hunt and fish and enjoy nature, which he carried with him throughout his lifetime. He loved track in school and often took place in track events. On one occasion, he ran so fast that he lost a shoe and a competitor stepped on the inside of his bare foot with his cleats, but Steve kept running. He ended up needing stiches, but he finished the race which got him a write-up in the local newspaper. That drive and determination was something he kept with him at whatever point of life he was in.
With a family change came a move back to Lincoln where his middle and high school years were spent. He selflessly mentored and helped care for his younger siblings. He took on tough responsibilities and learned the virtues of self-sacrifice and helping others. There was no one he would not lend a hand to.
After school he joined the U.S. Army and spent 2-years in Missouri and Colorado. Upon his return he married his high school sweetheart, Patty on October 17, 1980 and started their family of three and grandparents to seven.
Over 45 years ago Steve began his distinguished career with the City of Lincoln Wastewater System. He worked his way up from being an Operator to Superintendent of Operations and had authority over two advanced wastewater treatment facilities. He provided valuable input to the planning and design of the facilities and took on a vital role in the successful startup, operation and maintenance. These facilities received several EPA regional and national awards for outstanding operation and maintenance. Steve was key to the successful and efficient operation and maintenance of these facilities over the decades. He was very active in Nebraska Water Environment Association and the Water Environment Federation over many years and served on numerous committees, including being on the NWEA Executive Board and serving as the Director. With his expertise and certifications he was sought out for consultative work in other cities and states.
Steve loved long drives in the country, often times letting the gravel roads take him wherever they led him. He especially loved spending time in western Nebraska, particularly the Valentine area. His son, grandsons, and nephews were all part of his journeys whether it be for summertime fishing or wintertime ice fishing.
His most cherished time spent however was with his family. He loved taking them on vacations, often being on the beach and close to the ocean. Near the end of his life he made one last trip with his family to Florida, a place he had hoped to retire to. The time spent with his grandchildren was endless. There is hardly a picture of him without one or more on his lap or by his side. His family reveled in his excellent cooking skills. He was told on more than one occasion that he missed his calling – that of being a chef. He was as good or better with the BBQ as any other. Many of his weekend meals were like a holiday feast. He also loved taking care of his yard, which included an array of beautiful flowers. There was nothing that did not flourish under his green thumb. He was a friend to many and enjoyed vacationing with them and finding the best eating establishments wherever they went.
Steve is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pat. Children; Jill (fiancée Reshaud) Crisler, Kayla Crisler, and Brent Crisler, all of Lincoln. Grandchildren; Trenton, Collin, Amiyah, Jayda, Harper, Emry, and Camron. Father; Harold Crisler. Siblings; sister, Stacey (Greg) Lima and brother, Michael Crisler. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., at Lincoln Berean Church, 70th & Hwy. 2.

Condolences for Steven L. Crisler
Steve and I are sending our heartfelt condolences. Steve Crisler was a good friend for many many years.
As my supervisor, it seemed to me that Steve cared very very much for his work, the facility, and the people he managed. He would always stand up for what he believed in and work hard that his people were taken care of, even if that meant stepping on some toes. I believe he was strong in his convictions and was a genuine man of his word. He will be missed.
Sending you all my sincere condolences 💐 praying for you all as you lay your father/ Grandfather to rest, and especially the days that follow. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!
Rest in paradise uncle Steve 😘🙏
Steve was a great mentor, industry friend and leader of NWEA. I will always remember my induction in the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelors. In his introduction speech he mentioned that he was not sure if this person when he met him (me, who did not know yet) knew sh*t from shinola and now that he met this person he was sure now that this person did not know shinola. Steve will be missed. RIP.
Steve was a rare breed of common sense and conviction. He always seemed fair in his dealings and decisions. He will be missed in the WW world. RIP Steve.
Dear Harold and the Crisler family: We are deeply saddened by the passing of Steve. I have known Steve since our moving to Lincoln in the early 80’s I have always enjoyed working with Steve – both in his capacity with the Lincoln Wastewater System and on various professional involvement matters at the state and national levels. I have always admired Steve’s expertise as a water professional, professionalism in working with colleagues and clients, his “can do” outlook and perspective, and his sharp wit and quick humor. Our most sincere condolences to the whole family.

I am so sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. We worked together in the days when the Northeast Treatment Plant was placed into operation. The NETP was considered new and innovative technology, and there were issues, especially with the sludge holding lagoon. True to form he and Steve Lamborn developed means of managing the “issue” that I understand continue to be practiced. His positive approach to problems and in working with people are among his legacy. My best to you and your family!
I did not know Steve all that along but I always thought of him as very kind and a very good friend.
Steve will be missed by many.
Rest in peace my friend.
Steve was a great Co-worker and friend. When I needed a direction or an action needed on a topic, I trusted Steve’s advise and direction. We retired at about the same time and I was looking forward to his “talks” off the clock. I will miss you friend.
Steve was my boss at wastewater for 16 years. He trusted me as the maintenance supervisor under him and was always good to me. My sympathies to his family. I wish he could have enjoyed more time in retirement. Rest in peace, Steve.
My husband Russell Baade has been good friends with Steve’s brother Mike since early childhood. He was an upstanding family man and friend to many, never have I heard anything but good about Steve. His mother touched our lives in so many ways. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Crisler family.
