Hulda Louise Anna Scheiding

featured image

Hulda (Vorderstrasse) Scheiding, 96, Wilber, Nebraska, met her Savior on February 21, 2021 at Wilber Care Center in Wilber, Nebraska.  She was born on on August 22, 1924 to Casper and Louise (Pittnauer) Vorderstrasse at Plymouth, Nebraska, the 4th of 8 children.

Hulda attended District 17 country school and Peace Lutheran Church at Plymouth.  Household and farm chores filled her early life.  As a young lady, her passion for nurturing led to caring for new families and continued all her life anytime a child was near.

Hulda married Harvey Scheiding on October 30, 1949 at Plymouth.  Two daughters blessed their marriage, Sandra and Debra.

Their life together, spent in Blue Hill, NE, centered around church life at Trinity Lutheran, active in Altar and Flower Committees and Ladies Aid, and business life owning and operating Scheidings Appliance.  As a homemaker, Hulda loved cooking, baking, sewing and quilting.  Garden produce made for bountiful canning.  They both enjoyed weekly bowling leagues.  Harvey preceded her in death in 2008.

Hulda’s love of God, and faith in which she lived, was her foundation, supporting her in final years as health diminished her abilities.  Her years at Care Centers in Blue Hill and Wilber were blessed by caring staff.   She was enriched by her faith, the faith in which she lived, the faith in which she died, and finally the faith in her triumph over death.

Harold A. Sandstede, born to Lawrence & Madge Sandstede, died in the comfort of hospice care with loving daughter and favorite dog by his side.

Harold is survived by daughters Kristin & Heather, grandchildren Natalie & Garrett and siblings
Jacque, (Roger), Jan (Ron), & Steve.

Harold briefly attended the Naval Academy and Augustana college prior to becoming a federal employee in Hebbronville, Texas.  He worked as an anti-smuggling agent in Kansas City, Missouri and retired from his post as a special agent in Lincoln, Nebraska.  After retirement, Harold enjoyed serving his community building homes, pruning trees and attending any event that involved his family, agriculture, antique tractors or a cup of black coffee.  He was loved fiercely and will be remembered as a charismatic, sharp-witted, chivalrous man whose family was always important to him.  Diligent worker, playful jokester, photographer, superb scrambled egg-maker, loving Dad, brother & ‘grouchy Grandpa’, Harold lives on in the hearts, minds & conversations of all who loved him.

The family would like to thank the teams at Bryan Hospital, Eastmont Senior living & The Monarch in Lincoln, Nebraska.  The care provided in the last several years is much appreciated.  They served not just as caretakers and healthcare workers, but also friends and family to our Dad and all the residents. We will always be grateful for their compassionate care, loving spirits and welcoming hearts.

A celebration of life will be scheduled later this year in Harold’s beloved Rock County, Minnesota.
