Marvin Edward Renick

January 14, 1938 to December 21, 2020

One of 4 children born to Ed and Ruth Renick from Sullivan MO. Brothers Dale, and Donald (dean) Renick, and sister Helen Streich. At 15 moved to Palmyra, NE where he worked as a drywaller for Kess Drywall and later worked for Jacob North Printing Co. as a bindery operator.

Marvin met the love of his life and married Carol Layton in 1961. Carol came home from work a week after being married and there was a note on the table that read “honey, went fishing won’t be gone long”. Carol never even knew Marv liked to fish!

They had two children son Mike Renick and daughter Cathy Wells. There were three grandchildren (Derek Wells, Brandon Wells, and Kiara Treinen), and one great grandchild (Vayda Wells).

In the late 80’s Marv fell in love with the auction and garage sale scene. It wasn’t long before he was hooked buying-refinishing-and selling antiques. The antique furniture business seemed to crash in 2000 and Marv switched his focus of furniture to just buying-collecting-reselling stuff, and he had A LOT of stuff!!

Marv had that small town charm, was easy going and had never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all he has crossed paths with.

Kerry Lynn Ryan

Kerry “Toby” Ryan passed away in peace at her home in Raymond, NE on Sunday, November 8th, 2020. She was surrounded by her loving family and her dog Jake, who never left her side. Toby was born on July 15th, 1960, in Pawnee City, NE to Gayle and Pauline Eckman.

Toby loved the holidays. Christmas was an important time of year that she made magical for others as it was another opportunity for her to celebrate family. Toby also loved pink flamingos and Harleys. She enjoyed riding motorcycles and adventuring with Mark and her friends.  She was honest, a dedicated worker, loyal, and could give it to you straight but share a laugh the next moment. She welcomed any and everyone into her home. While everyone could attest to how tough she was, only those who experienced her tender and comforting side truly understood where that fire and strength came from. It was clear to see through the grit that she was so much more than just tough.

Toby spent her last few days at her paradise in Raymond, which her and her partner, Mark Homes, built together. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jeffry Eckman. She is survived by her brothers Scott(Kim) Eckman, Stacy(Bev) Maughan, Mark(Candace) Eckman, Bob(Mari) Eckman, and sisters Linda Maughan-Hager, Lisa(Tony) Rughe, Irene Eckman, Daisymae(Mark) Eckman-Brayton, her children Nicholas(Tosca) Ryan, Jessica Ryan, Amanda(Paul) Schmid, Zach(Shanna) Homes, and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who she adored.

A special thank you to her other family, the Lincoln Police Department, where she built a 20 year career. Their efforts and show of support over the last several weeks warmed her heart, put a smile on her face, and provided us moments of beauty during such a difficult time.

The degree to which Toby touched people’s lives is hard to put into words. She will be deeply missed by so many who could count on her and appreciated her. There is a hole in the world now that she’s not in it, but the unmeasurable impact she made will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers donations will go to Santa Cop (or if you insist on flowers, please buy them from Oak Creek Florist).

Checks can be made out to Santa Cop; LPD, 575 S 10th ST. Lincoln, NE 68508. Attn: Brianna Walters. Add “Toby” to your memo line

Please join us for a gravesite service at the Pawnee City cemetery at 10:30 am on Saturday November 14th, 2020. Due to covid-19, masks and social distancing is required.

James Lee Rogers

featured image

James L. “JimBob” Rogers was born 1/13/1963 in Huntsville, Arkansas and lived most of his life in Lincoln, NE.

Jim was well known for his mischievous belly laugh and ornery personality. People recognized him for his blue eyes and a contagious grin. Jim was a lover of music, and never turned down a chance to “go for a ride” so he could crank the car radio and “get funky” or “boogie” as he liked to say. He was a very caring person and always asked whomever he met how they were doing, just to make sure they were “pretty good, now”. James appreciated the little things in life that others take for granted, and all who knew him understood his love of a good hamburger and root beer. Jim could often be heard humming and singing his thoughts, with a classic chant being, “Can of pop!!” to his unique tune. Enjoying a soda with Jim was a privilege to all who experienced it and made you a friend in his eyes.

In recent years, Jim underwent health challenges that would crumble an average person. Jim took each day in stride and defied the expectations of his doctors on more than one occasion to regain his health and live out the rest of his days in the best way possible. Jim was an example of perseverance and inner strength. Those who loved him learned what it meant to love unconditionally.

Jim passed suddenly but peacefully on November 2, 2020 with those he knew as family by his side.

Jim will be laid to rest next to his parents, Julia and Robert Rogers in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, NE. In lieu of services due to the coronavirus pandemic, those who knew Jim are invited to share photos, videos and memories of Jim which will be compiled into a memorial video to be shared at a later time. Please contact Leslie Walters at 402-840-7485 or lwalters@regionvservices.com to share anything that was special to you about Jim.
