Vicki Zoubek of Tobias, NE passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday September 12, 2023 at the age of 73. She was born on June 11, 1950 to Victor and Mildred Slepicka in Swanton, NE. She attended Swanton public school through the 8th grade then went on to attend Western high school where she was a standout volleyball player graduating in 1968. She was united in marriage to Jerome Zoubek on June 19, 1971. To this union Travis, Kim, Jerrod, and Corey were born. She spent her early years of marriage being a farm wife and taking care of her children.

After her husband’s passing in 1988 she was tasked with raising her children on her own. She faced many challenges along the way but somehow managed to always make it work.  She was always a very hard working and caring person always putting everyone else before her. She worked in Fairbury, NE for many years and even purchased and ran a bar and grill in Tobias, NE for several years.  She then continued as a cook at a cafe in Ohiowa, NE right up to the day she was finally hospitalized for her illness.

Vicki always loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.  You could always see her at their sporting events or school programs. Her love for cooking was inherited from her mom Mildred. She loved cooking and you could always count her to provide delicious meals.  She always made way more than needed and that was always evident when she showed up with enough food to feed 50 people and there was only 5 people eating. She loved baking kolaches and other Czech dishes. Her loving smile and always happy attitude is what everyone loved about her and will miss.

Vicki is preceded in death by her husband Jerome, her parents Victor and Mildred, her brother Franklin, her sister Charlene, and special friend Albert Shultz.

She is survived by her children Travis Zoubek, Kim Kotas and husband Bryan, Jerrod Zoubek and Wife Becky, and Corey Zoubek and wife Cori.  Grandchildren Kaleb Kotas, Breanna Zoubek, Jonathan Zoubek, Ashlyn Zoubek, Kirstin Zoubek, and Kolin Zoubek.  Sisters Susie and Dennis Francis, and Patsy and Gary Meyer.

Harold Lee Shaw

featured image

Harold L. “Bud” Shaw, age 92, of Lincoln, NE, after struggles with pneumonia, died peacefully in his sleep and entered into eternity on September 10, 2023.  Born July 11, 1931, in York, NE, Bud graduated from York High School.  In 1949 at age 18, he moved to Lincoln and went on to work for 40 years for the Burlington Northern Railroad in maintenance as a boilermaker.  He sacrificed for many years working the night shift and even the swing shift at times where he would work day, evening, and night shifts each week.  Bud married Lila Richardson on June 12, 1955 and they lived in Lincoln their entire married life of 59 years until her passing on September 12, 2014.  They were the proud parents of their two daughters Pam and Rhonda and even prouder grandparents to Joy, Averi, Ally, and Katie who gave them six lively and wonderful great grandchildren Novella, Novel, and Stephen Badeer and Ingrid, Greta, and Karl Beitzel.

Bud served in the Nebraska Army National Guard as a Blacksmith Specialist 4 from 1956-1959.  He enjoyed working with wood in his work shed making furniture and various items to give away.  Bud loved his many dogs and spent many hours with Rhonda’s dogs too.  He could be found at nearly every Nebraska baseball game for decades.  He loved to fish and also did some hunting.  He enjoyed collecting lanterns and taking road trips to Colorado to visit family and to see the “over grown hills” as he would refer to the mountains.  He also enjoyed playing a spirited game of pitch, reading Louis L’Amour books, and listening to country or big band music.  Bud, or grandpa as he was often called was a very kind man who very rarely ever complained about anything.  Even in his last year of life with many health struggles following a stroke, he was always kind to all those around him.

Bud is preceded in death by his parents George and Lillie Shaw, brother Wendell Shaw, sister Marjorie Ehlers, wife Lila Shaw, and granddaughter Katie Nissen.

He is survived by his daughters Pam (Tim) Nissen of Lincoln and Rhonda Shaw of Lincoln, granddaughters Joy (Erik) Beitzel of Duluth, MN, Averi (Sean) Badeer of Aurora, CO and Ally (James) Yong of San Antonio, TX and great grandchildren Novella (10), Novel (7), and Stephen (6) Badeer of Aurora, CO and Ingrid (6), Greta (4), and Karl (11 months) Beitzel of Duluth, MN.

A graveside service will be held to remember Bud on November 22, 2023, 1030 am, at Fairview Cemetery, 8400 Adams St., Lincoln, NE.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Food Bank of Lincoln, 1221 Kingbird Rd., Lincoln, NE, or Capital Humane Society Pieloch Pet Adoption Center, 6500 So. 70th St., Lincoln, NE.
