Angela Marie Johnson: A Life of Love, Talent, and Unwavering Devotion

Angela Marie Johnson, born on March 8, 1987, in Minden, Nebraska, brought light and joy into the world in the most remarkable way—born in the middle of a Sunday church service, she was given the name Angela, a fitting tribute to the angelic presence she would become in the lives of those who loved her. Angela’s early years were filled with laughter, love, and a deep connection to her family, who she adored with all her heart.

From a young age, Angela’s brilliance shone through. She was reading at the age of 4, and her curiosity for the world never wavered. She excelled in many areas—whether it was playing the clarinet in the school band, winning a spelling bee, or competing in Destination Imagination, which took her to Tennessee with her talented group. Angela was a bright light in the classroom as well, always eager to help her peers and teachers, offering kindness and support to those around her.

Angela’s talents extended beyond academics. She was a natural athlete and excelled in sports, her competitive spirit matched by her deep care for others. She was a compassionate friend and a dedicated student, leaving a positive impact on those she encountered throughout her life.

Raised with strong faith, Angela was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Minden. Her church community was an important part of her upbringing, and she carried the values of love and compassion with her as she grew.

At the age of 14, Angela and her family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she continued to shine. She attended Lefler Middle School, Southeast High School, and graduated from Lincoln High School. She pursued studies at Southeast Community College and considered earning her business degree, always striving for growth and new opportunities.

In recent years, Angela found her calling in caring for children, working at a daycare where she lovingly looked after her two daughters and the many other children she cared for. Her nurturing spirit was evident in her work, and she was dedicated to providing a safe, loving environment for the children in her care.

On November 7, 2018, Angela welcomed her first daughter, Ariyama Marie Hodnett, into the world, followed by the birth of her second daughter, Akaysha LeeAnn Hodnett, on September 27, 2021. Angela’s love for her girls was boundless, and her devotion to them was clear in everything she did. They were the center of her world, and her role as their mother brought her immense joy and purpose. Ariyama and Akaysha adored their mother, and the bond they shared was unbreakable.

Though Angela faced her own personal struggles, she strived to remain positive, and her love for her children and family never wavered. She will be remembered for her strength, her big heart, and the joy she brought to so many. Angela touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt.

Angela is survived by her loving family: her grandmother, Barbara Lee Hof Gordon; her father, Thomas Dale Johnson; her mother, Kimberlee Ann Gordon Johnson; her sister, Rachelle LeeAnn Johnson; her two beautiful daughters, Ariyama Marie Hodnett and Akaysha LeeAnn Hodnett; and many other beloved family members and friends.

Angela’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and her spirit will forever guide her precious daughters. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Angela’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 12th, 2024, at 2 PM CST at the chapel at Saint Mark’s Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd,  Lincoln,  NE 68520.

Donations and Support for Angela’s Children
Angela’s greatest joy in life was her daughters, Ariyama and Akaysha, who will need continued love and support as they grow. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted by the family to help provide for the girls’ ongoing care—from everyday needs like pullups and daycare to their future education and beyond. Hugs and kindness will also be gratefully accepted at the celebration of life. Donations may be sent via venmo to @kimberlee-johnson-29. The family deeply appreciates your support during this time, and they encourage everyone to keep Angela’s memory alive in their hearts.
