Bernard O. Bryan Jr. “Bernie”

Bernard O Bryan Jr. “Bernie” was a hardworking, car enthusiast, determined, well liked man, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Born January 23rd, 1959. Age 65, Lifelong resident of Lincoln, NE. Bernie grew up tough, was in/out of foster care at an early age.  He learned early in life how to work on cars, was a good mechanic, but found his work-trade in Welding. Former Capital Steel Welder/ Fabricator for many years, proceeded to take his skills to Cleaver Brooks as a Boilermaker. He credited an impressive 34 years at Cleaver. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and best friend to many people. Full of orneriness and sarcasm, was very determined to make a difference in the lives he impacted, many lifelong friendships he made.

Bernie shared the same passion “Dirt Track Racing” with his late wife: Rhonda Scdoris (Bryan). Together they Co-Founded Kids Night at Eagle Raceway. He Drove Stockcars and Sprint Cars for many years and then passed that same tradition to his son. He loved holidays and spending time with family and friends, adored his grandchildren. Enjoyed being a role model and became closer to those that were less fortunate in life and was the give your shirt off my back type of guy. He will be most remembered for his huge heart and warm smile. Bernie was a heart valve donor recipient and returned the giving favor as being an organ/tissue donor to honor those who saved him. His best advice was always “Work hard and you can achieve anything you want in life, don’t stop chasing your dreams.”

He is survived by his Son and Daughter in Law: Nick and Ashley Bryan, Daughter: Jamie Crouse, Sisters: Florence Stone & Carol Hoskins, Brothers: Jerry Bryan & Eddie Bryan. Granddaughters: Tailynn, Madisynn & Kendallynn. Grandson: Brexton and many others beloved as his own. He is Preceded in death by his Wife: Rhonda, Parents: Bernard Sr. and Florence Bryan, Sister: Nancy Bayless

A Celebration of Life will be held at St Luke United Methodist Church, 1621 Superior Street, Lincoln, NE 68521. May 18th, 2024, at 12:00 PM.

David L. Gilfillan

David L. Gilfillan, 82 passed away on April 20, 2024 at his home in Lincoln. David was born and attended schools in Greeley, Colorado.

He attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He entered the United States Army in 1962 and was stationed in France and Germany.

After his time in the army, David worked in various financial institutions in commercial banking in the Fort Collins and Colorado Springs areas. In 1992, David and his wife Diane moved to Beatrice where he worked for the Nebraska Department of Economic Development until his retirement in 2008.

David is survived by his wife Diane and family including Kathlynn, grandson Conner of Denver along with Blake, Jennifer, and grandchildren Gabriela and Arthur of Lincoln.

Peggy Jean (Fork) Oswald

Peggy Jean (Fork) Oswald, 80, of Waverly, NE, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, in Lincoln, NE.

Born on April 13, 1944, in West Point, NE to Al and Helen Fork, Peggy led a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. She was the beloved wife of the late Joe Oswald, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Together, they raised a loving family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and care.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Micki Buhrmann) Oswald of Lincoln, Kellie Thoms of Lincoln, and Jeff (Erin) Oswald of Waukee, IA. Peggy was a proud grandmother to Amber (Paddy) Mulholland, Nicole (Eric Dempsey) Espinoza, Alyssa Haschenburger, Trevor (Jen) Haschenburger, Hailey Oswald, and Samie Buhrmann; and a great-grandmother to Trevor Jr., Thoren, Charlotte, and Crew. She is also survived by her sister, Pam (Eddie) Holtz of West Point, NE, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Oswald, parents Al and Helen Fork and sister Patricia ‘Patty’ (Fork) Grieser.

Peggy owned Pretty Homes Cleaning, where she dedicated over 25 years to providing exceptional service to her community. Her commitment extended beyond her business to her deep involvement in ministry at Radiant Church. Her kindness, warmth, and tireless dedication to her family, church, and community will be forever remembered and dearly missed. Her legacy of love and service continues to inspire all who knew her.

Peggy’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, April 28, at 3:00 p.m. at Radiant Church, located at 740 N 70th St., Lincoln, NE 68505. A luncheon will follow the service, where friends and family can share memories and fellowship.

Contributions in memory of Peggy can be made to Radiant Church, reflecting her dedication to her faith and community.

Dale A. Oberle

Dale A. Oberle, of Lincoln, passed away on April 17, 2024. Dale was born on April 23, 1933 in Lincoln, NE to Carl and Laurena Oberle of Eagle, NE. He loved to go fishing his whole life.

Dale is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lila; his daughter Cindy Synak(Jim); son Roger Oberle (Holly); son Tim Oberle(Nancy); grandchildren Lindsy McCreary(David), C.J. Synak, Jake Oberle(Michelle), Josh Oberle(Michaela) and Hannah Oberle; 5 great grandchildren; sister Judy Holtgrewe(Ron); sister-in-law Arlene Norris; and 11 nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
