Marjorie Mae Miller

Marjorie Mae (Walter) Miller was born May 13, 1927, in St. Francis, KS. She was 93-years-old when she passed into the presence of the Lord on October 8, 2020, in Lincoln, NE. Her parents were Rudolph (Roy) Albert and Sophie Clara (Raile) Walter, who made their home on the farm in St. Francis, KS., with her younger brother Glenn.

Marjorie graduated from St. Francis High School. She enjoyed math, basketball, volleyball and riding her horse. She studied cosmetology in Hastings, NE, and returned to St. Francis to open her own business. On September 12, 1947, she married Robert Leland Miller also of St. Francis. They enjoyed 65 years together before his passing in 2013. She helped rear five children and fostered twin girls.

As the wife of a pastor, she had many communities to call home wherever Robert was assigned, wearing many different “hats” and making many lifelong friends through the years. She was a hard worker and was known to whistle a merry tune, even at her last home, Southlake Village. Within the home, she managed household chores, sewed many clothing items, gardened, and loved animals. Outside the home, she ironed shirts for seminary students for $.25 each, cooked at a grade school, was a receptionist for an optometrist, an EMT volunteer, an aide in a care home, bookkeeper at a pharmacy and eventually operated her own in-home infant day care. For hobbies, she sewed quilts, crocheted afghans, created many craft items for church bazaars, and immensely enjoyed reading and her flower gardens. Her children remember her love of board games, vacations, and filling their home with her laughter.

Her faith was very important to Marjorie. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church which later merged with the Methodist Church. She had a caring heart and was a wise counselor, forgiving, non judgmental, accepting of everyone, giving endless chances as she poured out God’s love..

She is survived by her children: Ronald Lynn Miller and wife Margaret Lynn of Little Rock, AR; Sherilynn Reynolds and husband William Keith of Mountain Home, AR; Joy Ellen Sodders and husband Daniel Richard of Lawrence, KS; Lou Ann Colborn and husband Mark Douglas of Clatonia, NE; and Jon Marc Miller and wife Teresa Lynn of Lincoln, NE; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Glenn Donald Walter, her husband Robert, and her grandson Benjamin Christopher Reynolds.

A private family service was held on Monday, October 12, 2020. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Barb was born April 1, 1942 to Martha Ozena Reynolds – Brooks and Carl Frank Brooks in Marmaduke, Arkansas. Barb worked in optics for 30 years and even long after retiring, she continued to work for Lincoln Public Schools. She was hard working, loved her family, was always happy to spend time with her great grandchildren, enjoyed making crafts and attending craft shows, and always enjoyed doing the daily cross word puzzle. She was so ecstatic over the holidays that her face lit up with every decoration that she put out. Barb lit up the room with her enlightened spirit and playful sense of humor.

At her request, no service will be held. Celebration of life at a later date.

God saw she was getting tired
and the cure was not to be.
So He put his arms around her and
whispered, “Come with me.”

With tearful hearts
we watched her fade away.
Although we loved her dearly,
we could not make her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands laid to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.
