Diane L. Safranek

Diane Louise (Halada) Safranek, 78 passed away quietly on April 23, 2022 at Bryan Medical Center East, Lincoln Nebraska.

Born August 19, 1943 to Adolph and Emma Halada in Crete, Nebraska, where she lived her entire life.

United in marriage to Ronald Safranek in Crete, Nebraska in March of 1963.  They lived in Crete For several years before moving to a small farm outside of town.  There they enjoyed over 50 years together, while attending to a variety of farm animals including goats and horses.

Diane worked as a human resource officer with the State of Nebraska Department of Health where she retired in 2000 after 37 years.

She was a member of the Blue River Riders Saddle Club, 4-H horse club leader for 35 years, served 20 years with the Saline Agricultural Society and an avid bowler all in Saline County, Nebraska. Diane enjoyed traveling throughout Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and South Dakota to announce at various horse shows held at county fairs, state fairs and 4-H competitions.

Survived by husband, Ronald Safranek of Crete, sister-in-law Sharon Day, Nieces Debbie (Mike) Yost, Dixie (Rich) Kornfeld, Dorie (Joe) Sittler, Tracy Day, Kelly (Randy) Brummett, Cory Day and Mike (Jessie) Day along with many great nieces and nephews.

Proceeded in death by parents, Adolph and Emma Halada, in-laws Henry and Nellie Safranek, all of Crete, brothers-in-law Lyle Safranek and Sam Day. Sister and brother –in-law Dorothy and Walter Hupka, brother Delvin Halada and nephews Gary Hupka and Rick Hupka.

No services will be held. A casual gathering with family will be held a place and time to be determined in the near future.

Virginia K Schuerman

Virginia K (Sagehorn) Schuerman was born at home in rural Kramer, Nebraska on October 26, 1940 to Ida and Ted Sagehorn. She passed peacefully at home in Lincoln after a courageous third battle with cancer on April 22, 2022.

Virginia married Ronald Schuerman on Thanksgiving Day, November 21, 1961 and to this union, they had 3 children, Annie, Tom and Ben. She graduated in 1962 from UNL with a teaching degree in Home Economics and spent her working life teaching and working with families; she loved working with children. Virginia was a long-time organist/pianist and choir director at Hallam UCC and later at church services at Winter Haven Park in Pharr, TX where she and Ron spent many enjoyable warm winters. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, puzzles, reading, camping, and going to music events. Spending time with family and friends, and attending the activities of her grandchildren was always time well spent.

Virginia is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Ron; children and families: Annie and Steve Olsen; Tom and Becky Schuerman, Charlotte and Eli; and Ben and Aderene Schuerman, Angel, JR and Aya. She is also survived by her brother, Elliott (Ruth) Sagehorn; brother-in-law Wayne Schupbach; many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Ted Sagehorn; her sister, Harriett Schupbach; Ron’s parents Helen and August Schuerman; and sister Carolyn (Roger) Stokebrand.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hallam UCC, Hallam, NE with lunch/visitation to follow on Friday, April 29th at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to be sent to the family for future designation.

Timothy William Preusker

Timothy William Preusker passed away surrounded by his family on April 21, 2022.

Tim was born at home in Battle Creek, NE to William Gus and Sewerna Emelia Sophia (Rodekohr) Preusker on November 16, 1938. He grew up on a farm east of Battle Creek and attended St. John Lutheran School. After graduation from Battle Creek High School Tim entered the US Army and was stationed in Alaska.

Tim met Marilyn Overhue of Osmond, NE and they married in Norfolk, NE on July 26, 1959. They settled in Norfolk where they were blessed with two children Tracy Joy and Todd Timothy.

The family moved to St. Joseph, MO in 1970. Tim was a warehouse manager for Sherwood Medical for 35 years. When Tim retired, he and Marilyn moved to Lincoln, NE. to be closer to their family.

Tim enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Pony Express Square Dance Club. He loved to golf and watch all things Husker. Tim’s greatest enjoyment came from attending the sporting and school events for his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Tim was a constant at these events and always had a smile on his face, a peppermint life saver, and positive words for his Grandchildren. His phone calls on your birthday were something we all looked forward to.

After Marilyn passed away Tim was blessed to meet his very special friend Mary Nemec. Mary immediately became part of our family. They shared many of the same interests and Mary also became a fixture at the Grandkids and family events.

Besides Mary, Tim is survived by his son Todd Timothy (Diane) Preusker of Lincoln, NE; siblings and in-laws, Twin brother Gerry (Karen) Preusker, Elaine Murphy, Joan (Rich) Otjen, Pete Smith, Phyliss Preusker; son-in-law Kevin (Kathy) Gabriel; Eight Grandchildren, Kyle Gabriel, Rachel (Gabriel) Weigman, Tyler and Erin Preusker, Tim and Tom Hurst, Suzanne (Chris) Burnett, Cindy Hurst; Great Grandchildren Karter and Kolton Gabriel, Olivia, Logan and Alexis Weigman, Ethan and Elia Preusker, Zoey, Ozzie and Izac Hurst, Hunter and Laila Hurst, Addison, Brayden, Callen Perry and Mackenzie Hurst; and numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marilyn; a daughter Tracy Gabriel; siblings and in-laws, Mart Preusker, Grace and Kenneth Osborne, Donna Smith, and Ivan Murphy.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm Monday May 2nd. at St. John’s Cemetery in Battle Creek, NE. with reception to follow at St. John’s Church.

Robert is preceded in death by his father-in-law Barton Wilson.

He is survived by his father Gerald Gulland, mother Peggy Gulland (Heinbigner), wife Katherine Gulland (Wilson), sister Pam Bloom, nephew Jason (Amber) Bloom, niece Tisha Bloom, great niece Kelli DeGarmo, mother-in-law Jeanette Wilson, sister-in-law Karen Wilson, sister-in-law Kim Wilson, and brother-in-law John Wilson.
