Dr. Irwin William Fischbein
My dad was 94 years old and is survived by his wife (Sarah) of 72 years (they met when she was 13 and he was 17) and his children Cora and Steve and their spouses (John and Robin) and his grandchildren, Jeff (and wife Caitlin), Hannah (and husband Tom), Sarah and Ben, and great grandchild Moira. My father was a brilliant scientist who had a PhD in biophysics from Berekely (1950) and worked for Gillette Company in Boston, Mass for his entire career. There he pioneered the use of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy in looking at the wear of razor blade edges caused by the interaction with human hair, and invented new coatings for razor blade edges that changed and shaped the world of modern shaving techniques. If you shave with a razor, then you owe a smooth shave to my dad. He invented the razor blade coatings for “The Spoiler” and “The Platinum Plus” which were teflon and platinum and teflon coatings to protect blade edges and allowed them to cut through human hair with the least possible resistance. As far as I know, his patents are still in use today, and were copied by every major razor blade manufacturer in the world. In fact, he spent the last years of his career as an expert witness for Gillette defending against patent infringement cases internationally. My dad was literally, a genius with straight A’s through his B.Sc. in forestry, M.Sc., in Wood Technology (at Syracuse University) and PhD. In his final years he was burdened by advancing dementia, but even with that impairment he was still smarter than most people I have ever met. He was a loving father and husband with a great sense of humor and was always quick with a pun or a quip, and he was never bashful about speaking what was on his mind. Even just last Friday we were joking around and he was telling me he thought if he made 100 it would be a good goal and he would be satisfied. While he didn’t make that goal, he lived a long and full life and will be sorely missed by his immediate and extended family and friends. I love you dad. Sarah Fischbein
Sarah (Ginsberg) Fischbein passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 25, 2020 at 96 years old. She was born in New York City, New York on May 20, 1924, the daughter of Anna (Goverofsky) Ginsberg and Jacob (Grabiner) Ginsberg. Her siblings, Goldie Entel, Sydney Ginsberg and Benjamin Ginsberg all pre-deceased her. Sarah grew up in the Bronx, New York, graduated high school with secretarial skills and a passion for singing. She married Irwin William Fischbein (deceased) on October 17, 1942 and was married for 72 years. She worked, as a secretary and stenographer to support herself and her husband while he attended college and graduate school. She worked until she became a mother and then devoted her time solely to raising her family. She lived in New York City, NY; Syracuse, NY; Lubbock, TX; Berkeley CA; Boston MA & vicinity; Huntington Beach, CA and Lincoln, NE. Sarah was an excellent homemaker and loving mother who enjoyed her family, traveling, the outdoors, and sailing with her husband on both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. She also was a talented hobby artist who created many paintings that are still enjoyed by her family. Remembered as an optimistic, strong willed, vibrant, talented, nurturing woman with an appreciation of humor, a beautiful smile, and a quick wit. She will be sorely missed and is survived by her two children and their spouses, Cora (Fischbein) Rubitschun (John Rubitschun) and Steven Fischbein (Robin Klipper-Fischbein), four grandchildren, Jeffrey Rubitschun (Caitlin (Pierce) Rubitschun), Hannah (Rubitschun) Cousino (Thomas Cousino), Sarah Fischbein and Benjamin Fischbein and two great grandchildren, Moira Rubitschun and Jillian Cousino. Donald James Fiedler
Donald Fiedler, 92, passed away April 18, 2020. He was married to his wife for 69 years. Together they raised 10 children and had 30 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Ann (Tom) Van Develder, Bob (Ann) Fiedler, John, Ellen (Dale) Niebuhr, Margaret Quinn, Nancy DeVoe, Lucy (Jim) Clark, Jim (Tammy) Fiedler and Mary Garaghty and his grand and great-grandchildren. William Brian Finter
William Brian Finter, known to friends and family as Brian, was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran and much loved family man.
He was born August 27, 1955 to Claudine Ernestine Whitesell and Charles William Finter in Independence, Missouri.
Brian is preceded in death by his parents and sister Denise Perryman. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Finter, Glenwood, IA; his first wife Lisa Major, Aurora, CO, and their two children Ashley (Nick) Kumpula, Lincoln, NE and Natalie (Roy) Erhart, Timnath, CO; brother and sister-in-law Chris and Cindy Finter, Mount Holly, NJ; many loving nieces and nephews, relatives, and many, many friends.
As an Air Force officer, he traveled across the world, spanning from 1982 to 2004. During his highly decorated and honorable career, he served as a B-52 Radar Navigator, Space Command Officer, and as the 95th Reconnaissance Squadron Commander at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, England. After 22 years of meritorious service, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. In his remaining years, he worked with his two best friends, Gap and Ralph, to create Spiral Communications, a technology company based in Southwest Iowa and Southeast Nebraska.
An internment is scheduled for Friday, March 6 at 11 a.m. at the Omaha National Cemetery (14250 Schram Rd, Omaha, NE 68138). All friends, family, and veterans are welcome to attend.
