David Brooks was a chemistry and technology teacher. He pioneered at the introduction of technologies such as television, precursors to PowerPoint, the World Wide Web, and computer-assisted instruction during traditional teaching. He was among the first in the world to offer courses that were entirely Web-based. He taught thousands of college undergraduate students, dozens of Masters students, and mentored almost 40 graduate students through to doctoral degrees. Although not a world traveler, Dave was proud that he had spent at least one full day in each of the 50 states. “Each state has something beautiful.” He thoroughly enjoyed driving around the US. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Eileen Lizabeth. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 54 years, brother Michael, son Gregory Daniel, and two grandsons. Cremation. No services. Craig Allen Burklund, 49, of Osceola passed away on November 13, 2018. Graduate of Geneva High School in 1987. Preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Survived by his best friend, his dog Buddy of 16 years, loving brothers and sisters, brother-in-law, niece, and many friends. The family would like to thank everyone who made Craig’s life fulfilling. LaVerne J. Bish (Turner) , 96 , died peacefully November 22, 2018 following a short illness. LaVerne was born March 3, 1922, the youngest of eleven children of Charles and Anna Turner in Trumbull, NE. After graduating from Trumbull High School, she trained at Mary Lanning School of Nursing in Hastings, NE. In 1944 she married Cyril Bish of Giltner, NE, her husband of 62 years. She also entered the Nurse Corp of the U.S. Army in 1944 and served until 1945. The family moved to Lincoln in 1954 where they raised two daughters. From 1965 to 1987, she was the Director of Nursing at Milder Manor Nursing Home. LaVerne was passionate about service to others, and she touched many people’s lives. She volunteered at the Lied Center and Bryan Health Medical Center. She was also active in the Presbyterian church, PEO, UNL Faculty Women’s Group and the Fifty-Fifty Bridge Club, and served on committees at the Grand Lodge at the Preserve, where she resided until her death. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cyril, her parents and all of her ten siblings. She is survived by her daughters Musa Campbell of Cincinnati, Sara Evenson of Lincoln and granddaughter Madelynne Campbell of Cincinnati. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd, Lincoln. Maxine H Ball, age 89, a long time Lincoln resident, passed away on October 8, 2018. She was born May 1, 1929, in Bismarck, N.D., to Paul and Helen Krueger. Maxine was married to Merlin A Ball on March 19, 1948, they were married for 57 years. Survivors include her three sisters, her five children: Jack Ball, Roger Ball, Keith Ball, Peggy Forcier, and Diane Anderson, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin A Ball, her parents and two sisters, Joyce and Dorothy Krueger. A graveside service and interment of ashes will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 3, at Fairview Cemetery, 84th and Adams, with memorial celebration following at The Isles reception hall, 63rd and Havelock Ave.

Kathryn Louise Sheridan was born in Milnor, ND on February 16, 1931 to William and Emma Sheridan. Kathy lived in Milnor with her parents and her brothers Bill and Jim and graduated from Milnor High School in 1949. On December 13th, 1949 Kathy married Leslie Bueling of rural Sheldon, ND. Kathy was very busy raising their 5 children in the Sheldon area. Until 1977, when the family moved to Oregon where Les worked in a plywood mill and Kathy did the books at the Astoria Clinic. In 1981, the family moved to Fargo, ND. Kathy and Les started Bueling Monograms in 1981 and did very well with it until their retirement in 1996. Kathy is survived by two brothers, Bill of Lincoln, California, and Jim of Minneapolis, Minnesota, four children, Steve (Susan) Bueling of Denver Colorado, Tom Bueling of Fargo, North Dakota, Laurie Oyos (Brad) of Fargo, North Dakota, and David (Stefani) of Lincoln, Nebraska, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Les and son Bruce. A short graveside service will be held at the cemetery in Sheldon, North Dakota at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 3rd.
