William Edward Jordan

featured image

William Edward Jordan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at the age of 78 surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on January 17, 1947, in Tekamah, Nebraska, Bill grew up under the watchful eyes of his parents, Orville and Veda, and his big sister Donna. Of course, that didn’t stop him from getting into loads of trouble with his best friend for life, Randy Doncheski.

After graduating from Tekamah High School, Bill moved to Lincoln to attend the University of Nebraska where he obtained his bachelors and masters’ degrees in education.

Bill took after his father Orville in his ability to work with hands, fix just about anything, and eventually build his own home. Bill took after his mother Veda, known to many as Bea, in his calm, kind nature and loving demeanor for his family.

Bill was a loving and present father to his two children, Amy and Jim, from his marriage to Nancy McGlasson. He attended endless swim meets and baseball games and even tried his hand at coaching youth basketball and little league. He went to all the music performances and sat dumbfounded when during one show he witnessed eight high school students all wearing his t-shirts on stage!

But Bill was happiest when he found the love of his life, Audrey. Married for 34 years, Bill enjoyed many adventures with Audrey including visiting the Netherlands, Niagara Falls, the badlands of South Dakota, Alaska, Hawaii, the Bahamas, the Panama Canal, and countless trips to Mrytle Beach. Audrey pushed Bill out of his comfort zone and he knew he was a better man for it. They enjoyed being Oma and Opa to their combined eight grandchildren. Again, Bill attended sports events, musical performances, enjoyed fourth of July root beer floats, and took pride in cooking his grandchildren’s favorites – particularly lasagna and pancakes.

Bill was a proud shop teacher at Whittier Junior High and Lincoln High School. He often said that every kid should be required to take shop class – and he was 100% correct. Bill’s students – long after he had retired – would make a point to say hello when they saw him. He was a memorable teacher – with his 6’4” stature, blue shop coat, and no-nonsense instruction style.

Bill loved to play golf with his friends, because he loved his friends dearly. He had an infectious personality, and everyone wanted to be with him. He was quick with a joke and good-natured teasing and always willing to lend a hand to a friend.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Audrey, his two children Amy (Hugh) of Kansas City and Jim (Jennifer) of Boston, his stepson Matt (J. Marie) of Lincoln, and eight grandchildren: Jason Falls, Tyler Falls, Colby Falls, Will Wooden, Lucy Bea Wooden, Grace Hansen, Hope Hansen, and James Jordan, as well as two nephews, Terry Drummond (Diane) of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and Robert Drummond (Elizabeth) of Falls City, Nebraska, as well as many dear friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Donna, and stepdaughter Michelle Falls.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Friday, October 3 at 3 pm at Hope Community Church where friends and family will gather to share memories and honor his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lincoln Parks Foundation to go towards a bench at the 8th hole at Highland’s Golf Course where Bill had his only Hole-in-One.

Thanks to the caring staff at Tabitha’s Harbor House who helped Bill in his final few months on earth.

I had the opportunity of working with Bill Jordan at Whittier Junior High and Lincoln High Schools. His warm, upbeat personality and pleasant demeanor were always noticeable as he taught students in his Industrial Arts classes as well as with his interactions with others. Bill shared his love for sports with students as he participated in staff vs student intramural basketball games.

I will remember Bill Jordan as a man who genuinely cared about students’ learning experiences and their future successes. I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the Jordan family.

    Respectfully,

    Jake Kirkland Jr.

I arrived at Whittier Jr. High School, September 1, 1969. Had Mr. Jordan for my shop teacher. Nothing but good memories. Work with Mr. Jordan at The High. Thank you for record/records day, 45’s, on Fridays in class.
