Roberta Ann King
Roberta “Bird” King, a loving mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024. Born in 1936, Bird was known for her subtle and ironic sense of humor that brought lightness and laughter to those around her. A proud graduate of Lincoln High School, she lived a life rich in love and accomplishment.
She greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. Many treasured summers were spent at her cabin in Cedar Creek, Nebraska, where she found peace and joy surrounded by nature. Her passion for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Kansas City Chiefs was evident as she cheered enthusiastically for both teams.
Bird took great pride in her independent living. She was an accomplished baker, and her baked goods were beloved by all, often enjoyed at traditional Sunday dinners that brought her family together around the table. These meals were a testament to her dedication to family and her ability to create lasting memories.
A devoted member of St. John’s Catholic Church for 60 years, Bird was also committed to giving back. She volunteered for the Lincoln Public Schools reading program, where she shared her love of reading with children, nurturing their growth and learning.
Bird is survived by her sister, Jeanne Theis; her son, Daniel (Dawn); her daughter, Nancy (John Grady), and her grandson, Richard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years, and her brother, James Kost.
A mass to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, November 16 at 11 am at St. John’s Catholic Church. Lunch will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Matt Talbot Kitchen.
Roberta King will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and community will forever be cherished in our hearts.
