I am honoring the life of Mary Dickinson who passed away. Mary was my open-minded, creative high school English teacher at Pius, & we were given the blessing of teaching together at Lincoln High some years later. I am forever grateful to have written a tribute about her in 2005 that earned her the LPS, Three Eagle Association and the Foundation for LPS Teacher of the Year Award. She was so happy that day, and deserving of this affirmation. She changed my life in high school, & I truly loved her. She is the remarkable person who inspired me to become an English teacher. Whether I was sitting with her on the pep club bus, or sharing a worldly concern with her, she is forever one of my favorites.

Dear Bob and family members and friends of Mary,
I’m only saying what all of you have known ever since you came into Mary’s sphere. Mary was a very, very good person. Her physical presence will be greatly missed but her spirit lives on in each of us and in the many students whose lives she changed. May the grief that we now feel be replaced with gratitude for having Mary in our lives. Peace.
