Mary Anne Berry

Mary Anne Berry died peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born in St. Joseph, MO on January 19, 1936. Her parents, Thomas and Florence Lewis, raised her in St. Joseph her entire childhood.
Mary Anne married Edgar Berry on July 30, 1961. She and Ed raised their family primarily in Belton, MO. It was wonderful small-town living with many family friends and neighbors. It was also in close proximity to family in St. Joseph, MO. Mary Anne and Ed divorced amicably in 1977. He preceded her in death in 1997. Following her divorce, Mary Anne moved to Indianapolis, IN to work for the government, first with the I.R.S. and later with U.S. Customs. Again, she built a good life, with family nearby and many close friends. After her retirement, she moved to Manhattan, KS and subsequently to Lincoln, NE where she lived until her death. For the last 10 years, she lived in Yankee Hill Retirement Village, moving from Independent Living, to Assisted Living, to Memory Care as her Alzheimer’s disease progressed. Between the nursing staff and the residents, she made many friends while living there.
Mary Anne is survived by her son, Robert Berry and his wife, Cindy of Athens, TX; daughter, Judy Scharmann and her husband, Larry of Lincoln, NE; and daughter, Susan Fattig (husband, Scott, deceased) of Palm Springs, CA. Her son Thomas Berry preceded her in death. She is survived by 8 grandchildren: Michael Berry (Brittney), Travis Berry (Ashley), Jason Berry, Amy Scharmann, Bobby Scharmann, David Berry (Lura), Rebecca Sowell, and Paul Sowell; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Judy Moore and her husband, Norman, of Edmond, OK; 2 nieces; and 1 nephew (deceased).
Family graveside services will be held on September 28, 2025 at Lexington Memory Gardens, Lexington, MO.
Mary Anne left a legacy of kindness. She was kind to everyone and she exhibited her faith in God in every aspect of her life.

My condolences to my Cousin’s in the loss of your beautiful Mother. She was an amazing Mother & Grandmother & Aunt! She was my safe place, my other Mother growing up. She will live in our memories with fondness and love. Until we meet again in paradise! Much Love!
