Martin R. Meyer lll (Marty)

Martin (Marty) Meyer III, born on January 6, 1951, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, surrounded by his family after a seven-month battle with illness.
Marty is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Patty (Zieman) Meyer; his son, Cory R. Meyer, and his wife, Amber, of Lincoln, NE; and his grandchildren, Haley Fisher of Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM, and Callen and Kierra Meyer of Lincoln, NE. He is also survived by his nephews and cousins. Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Jr. and Viola Meyer, and his sister, Joan Jeys.
Marty graduated from Lincoln High School in 1969 and attended McCook Junior College while living in McCook, NE. He returned to Lincoln in 1977 and began working for Burlington Northern Railroad. In January 1978, Marty met the love of his life, Patty Zieman, at the “Two Eyed Jacks” bowling alley in Emerald, NE. They were engaged in July and married in November of the same year. In November 1981, Marty became the proud father of their only child, Cory.
In 1982, Marty changed careers and began working for the City of Lincoln, where he made signs. He continued in this role until his retirement in 2017.
Marty had a passion for bowling, softball, playing pitch, shooting trap, and sporting clays. He cherished spending time with his son and grandchildren and was always eager to volunteer. His volunteer activities included the Star City Parade, company picnics and holiday parties, Storm Baseball tournaments, and high school bowling events.
Marty had a fascination with the railroad’s steam engines and would take his grandchildren to see them as often as possible. He also loved spending time with his multiple fur babies, as well as with family and friends.
Marty was an amazing husband, father, pappa, and an inspiring father figure for many people who knew him. He was always a source of wisdom, even if it was just calling you out on your own shortcomings to keep you honest. He was always willing to put things aside to help at a moment’s notice, whether it was babysitting, picking up grandkids from school, or helping with a move. Marty always threatened to charge for helping, but never actually collected.
Marty taught us teamwork, great work ethics, compassion, humor, and dedication. Throughout the years, there have been many moments of laughter and fun, as well as shared sorrow. Many times, we gave Marty a hard time and listened to him dish it right back. His sense of humor and his constant involvement in our lives will be missed dearly.
Rest in peace, husband, father, pappa, and friend.
We are having a celebration of life for Marty at Rosie’s (south) 1502 Centerpark Rd. Lincoln NE. on Sunday, February 2, 2025. It will be an open house style get together from 3-6 pm.

Patty – sending love and light your way. Marty and you were highlights of my summers growing up. Especially those storm baseball tournaments in Milford. It always seemed like an extra pork sandwich “fell off” the grill when Marty was working it. He always made sure to take care of us kids. Thanks for spending all that time with us and sharing Marty. Blessings to you and the family.
