featured image

Marjorie (Margie) Lou Kohl Lionberger was born March 11, 1935 to Norbert and Ethel Mayberry Kohl in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her family moved to Lincoln when she was eight years old.  She passed peacefully on February 7, 2023, at the age of 87, surrounded by her family.

Marjorie attended Lincoln Northeast High School where she met her future husband, David. They graduated in the Class of 1953.  She and David were married on February 7, 1954.  Marjorie and her husband David were members of the Lincoln Iris Society for many years. Marjorie loved her beautiful iris garden that was cared for and tended to by David. A hybridized iris named after her is registered with the American Iris Society. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, David, and her six children: daughter Linda Obrecht (Jeff); son Mark (Cindy); son Luke (Pam); daughter Melinda Smith (Bill); son Dan; and daughter Amy Smith (Don). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Lincoln Iris Society.  Please mail any donations for Lincoln Iris Society to 103 S 36th Rd., Syracuse, NE  68446-7407.

A private service is being planned.

Very sad to hear the news. We’ll be praying for the entire family. Mom would be heartbroken if she could understand/remember.
