Madelyn Balm Springer
Madelyn Balm Springer passed away peacefully with family by her side, on October 5, 2024, at Eastmont Retirement Community. Madelyn had many friends at Eastmont as well as a caring and compassionate staff (and volunteers) from Eastmont and Tabitha Hospice.
Madelyn was born on April 4, 1931, in Burton, Nebraska. She was the eldest daughter of Stillman and Maggie (Bammerlin) Balm. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son Donald Springer and her husband William (Bill) B. Bovard.
She is survived by and will be dearly missed by her sister, Zola Ely, Bill’s children Bill (& Jeannette), George (& Kim), Sandi (& Ted), Carol (& John), Susan (& Shawn), their grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her many friends and relatives.
Madelyn graduated from Keya Paha County High School in 1948. After graduating, she moved to Lincoln, NE, where she earned her nursing degree, launching Madelyn’s career as a surgical nurse. Her love of dancing fatefully brought her to the PlaMor where she met Bill, the love of her life and constant companion. Upon retirement she lived in Panama City, FL, with Bill until his passing in 2017. They taught dancing for years. They were especially fond of teaching round dancing, ballroom and line dancing at the Grand Square Hall in Panama City. They also enjoyed teaching line dancing to the “snowbirds” each spring for over 20 years, at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach. When Bill passed, Madelyn came back to Nebraska, moving into Eastmont in December of 2017.
Madelyn and Bill also loved to travel and had many adventures across the US, into Alaska and Canada, in their camper. They also traveled on a river cruise in Europe, cruised the Caribbean and to the Middle East, and to China and Hawaii.
Madelyn was known by all. She knew many people through her work as a nurse, and later from dancing and instructing dance with Bill.
