“Jean” Luella Jean Woodbury

Luella “Jean” Woodbury, 93, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on February 11, 2020. Born January 25, 1927 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Samuel and Doris Hawkins.  Jean had two sons, Thomas Detore and Daniel Detore, with first husband Dominick Detore.  On August 8, 1980, she married the love of her life, Duncombe “Woody” Woodbury in California, where they resided for many years.  Jean had a passion for animals, photography and traveling.

Jean is survived by her son, Tom (Eileen) Detore of Columbia, Missouri; daughter-in-law Rebecca Detore of Lincoln, Nebraska; granddaughters Jennifer (Devin) Reinke  and Shelley (Chad) Lyon, both of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother Lynn (Valerie) Hawkins, of De Smet, South Dakota; and sister-in-law Joan Hawkins of Watertown, South Dakota.  She is also survived by four great grandsons, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, husband Woody, son Daniel, and brothers Clayton Hawkins and Donald Hawkins.

Private family memorial service to be held at a later date.

Memorials are requested to Hearts United for Animals of Auburn, Nebraska.

    So sorry to hear about Aunt Jean! I always think of her as a vibrant, energetic, fireball of a woman. I enjoyed visiting with her at Aunt Joan’s birthday party. We always had good visits which were far too few.
