Kenneth Rex Johnson
Kenneth Rex Johnson passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024 in Lincoln, NE at the age of 87. Ken was born April 1, 1937 in Alliance, NE, the youngest of 8 children. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1955 and joined the US Army shortly thereafter. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Ken moved to Lincoln, NE where he began working in retail and met his wife, Linda.
Ken spent much of his retail career as a Manager of Lawlor’s Sporting Goods where he specialized in firearms, cameras, and other electronics. He then spent a number of years working at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, before returning to retail. He retired as the General Manager of American Thrift Store in Omaha.
Ken was always up for a good conversation, and he was widely admired for his kindness and decency. He enjoyed his retirement staying close to home, relaxing and spending time with his son, family, friends, neighbors and his beloved Doberman, Prince. Ken enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible with Prince, his radio, and a cup of coffee.
An avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, he rarely missed watching, or listening to, the Husker football team play. While football was his favorite Husker sport, he also enjoyed watching the baseball and volleyball teams play. When it came to professional sports, the Kansas City Royals were his favorite.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Linda. He is survived by his son, Paul Johnson of Lincoln.
A public service will not be held as per Ken’s request. Memorials to the family will be designated between Dolly’s Legacy Animal Rescue and The American Legion.

Condolences for Kenneth Rex Johnson
I never knew Ken well, but my grandparents have lived across the street from him my whole life. He and his son Paul were always so kind to our family, and a positive light in the neighborhood. I’m saddened to hear of his passing and I wish his family peace and the knowledge that he lived a full and virtuous life. May he rest peacefully.
I had the pleasure of knowing Ken for quit a number of years. Ken was a great neighbor, and friend. I will always remember our backyard conversations. He will be missed.
Rest in peace my friend!
Bob
Kew was such an amazing person. Paul and I have been best friends since the first day of high school, so I spent a lot of time at the Johnson house over the years. Ken always made me feel so welcome. He always took a real interest in what was going on in my life. We had so many great conversations on the front porch where Ken always had a cup of coffee in his hand. Ken will be greatly missed and Heaven is a better place with him there.
My sincerest condolences Paul.
