Glenn W. Makelin Jr. (Bill)

Bill’s Last Bash

Bill Makelin (Glenn William Makelin, Jr), forever 17 (or 71 if you didn’t only count every 4th bday), turned his last wrench on August 14, 2023. He is now forever hot-rodding in heaven in his Z28 and ’55 Chevy; wearing cowboy boots, a button-down flannel or a t-shirt with a v cut in the neck, and road-tripping pedal to the metal with his crescent wrench keys in the ignition, diet coke w/koozie in hand, music cranked.

Bill was born and immediately dubbed the hellion of the 6 kiddos/farm hands, born to Glenn and Betty Makelin, on February 29, 1952. He is survived by his most stressful accomplishments in Heather, Heidi, Melissa, Daniel, Jenny & Jake, and the one he probably loved the best , his Vizsla Blue – as well as a big ole family and old close friends. He loved his family fiercely with his gigantic heart, even if he didn’t always show it in the most conventional ways – like once with a cattle prod! He was brutally honest, but that was part of his charm.

Bill was a farm kid turned mechanic who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger and could and would help anyone and fix anything. He loved guns, a good book, meat and potatoes, bullshitting, movies, fresh farm eggs and bacon, hunting, processing/cooking his hunted game, his grandma’s banana and chocolate cream pies, diet coke, Bacardi, a slippery nipple or 3, rumchata, anything CHOCOLATE, bacon, shooting targets, cars, bacon, and women….not necessarily in that order! He was a simple man with simple pleasures.

Rest easy pops. Take care of your momma and cook her some breakfast like you always did down here; and give a good rub down to those passed on furry buddies like Lightning, Newah1, Bart, Newah2, and Sport. Cheers to you and all of us left behind, and let us always remember the athletic, outgoing, energetic, fun-loving Bill. We miss that guy.

Please join us to honor this good ‘ole farm boy for his last bash on Friday, September 1, at the VFW in Waverly, Nebraska, 4pm- late. A ‘that fucker died’ toast and open mic for those interested will start at 5pm. OR, please PLEASE feel free to write down a story or two and send to us and we can read for you. Food and drink will be a-plenty. Stories, laughter, and celebration are must, or don’t come 😊!

Address: VFW – 13820 Guildford, Waverly NE

Bill was a great guy as all that knew him were well aware. My deepest sympathies.
