It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Galyn Harold Dowding, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Galyn left this world peacefully on April 13, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of his family in Lincoln, Nebraska, the city where his remarkable journey began.

Born on December 21, 1944, to Harold and Maxine in Lincoln, Galyn’s life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and a love for the simple joys that life has to offer. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann Mallory, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love. They were united in marriage on April 13, 2004, a date that marked not only a union of hearts but also a partnership filled with cherished memories. Galyn is proceeded in death by sister Marlene and brother-in-law Leslie Weatherhog, as well as brother-in-law James Summers.

Galyn was a devoted father to his children, Gail Prendes (Larry) and Michael Dowding (Morgan), who were the pride and joy of his life. He was also a loving grandfather to one grandchild Austin Prendes, whose games he never missed and whose accomplishments he celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride.

He was a beloved brother to his sisters, Marilyn Parks of Lincoln, Beverly (Glen) Emswiler of Lincoln, Peggy (Ken) Bills of North Loop, Marica Summers of Bennet, and many nieces and nephews, they shared in his joys and supported him through life’s challenges. Their bond was a testament to the strength of family and the enduring love they held for one another.

Throughout his career, Galyn was a pillar of hard work and dedication. He served as a shipping supervisor at Nebraska Packaging, where his commitment and leadership were admired by colleagues and friends alike. Even after retirement, Galyn’s industrious spirit led him to pursue smaller jobs, always eager to stay active and engaged with the world around him.

Galyn was a man of varied interests and passions. His love for sports was infectious, and he was an avid fan of baseball, basketball, and football. Sundays were reserved for NASCAR races, where he never missed the thrills on the track. He found joy in the simplicity of crossword puzzles and was known for his sharp mind and quick wit. Watching cattle sales and attending dirt track races at Eagle Raceway and Knoxville Raceway were among his favorite pastimes, reflecting his love for community and the outdoors

Galyn’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering support for those he held dear. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, cherished through the countless memories he created and the love he shared so generously.

A celebration of Galyn’s life will be held to honor his memory and the remarkable impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him.

As we say goodbye to Galyn, we take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved Ann, watching over us with the same love and care he provided in life. His spirit will forever be a guiding light, reminding us of the power of love, family, and the joy found in life’s simplest pleasures.

Sorry for your loss, many hugs my dear sister. Few things popped into my head when he was my step dad and it made me chuckle I was kind of on the onery side.
