David L. Westling
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David (Dave) L. Westling, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and son on June 18, 2023, at his home in Lincoln, where he was surrounded by his family.
Dave was born in Lincoln on February 6, 1954, to Albert and Betty (Richmond) Westling. The third of eight children, he decided to continue the tradition with a big family of his own, with five children – Josh (Carolina), Tori, Matt, Andie, and Abby. And eight grandchildren – Azcia’, Malik, Makhi, Peter, Quinn, Jack, Delaney, and Seamus.
Dave joined the US Army in 1971 and served until his honorable discharge in 1974. Shortly after returning home, Dave met the love of his life, Diane (Shanahan), and they were married on September 6, 1975. After the military, Dave worked at BNSF for 40 years before leaving to do his favorite job he ever had – retirement in March 2014.
In his retirement, Dave made the best darn ribs you’d ever eat and cooked anything else you could want on his Green Egg, ensuring you’d never leave hungry. Dave enjoyed catching up on all the TV he’d missed over the years, practicing for his time to “come on down” on the Price is Right.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Debbie, his brother Larry, and his brother-in-law Alan. Dave is survived by his brothers and sister, Ernie, Carol (Westling-Toman), Rick, Lonny (Anna), and Danny, as well as his wife, kids, and grandkids.

Condolences for David L. Westling
I am sorry for your loss. I worked with his Dad, Ernie and Rick at the Havelock Shops and played softball and basketball with Larry when he was in the Ashland area.
So sorry for your loss bless your family at this time we have many memories of being neighbors of your family
I had the honor of taking his daughter, Andie, to senior prom. He gave me a hard time about making sure she came home at a decent hour and treating her right- or else. I was only slightly terrified, which of course he loved. But boy, could he make me laugh.
So very sad to hear about Dave. My heart goes out to you Diane and your family. You have to think he is in a good place and meeting up with family. Big hugs to all.
My heart is with Diane and the rest of the family on Dave’s passing. Dave gave me the nickname “Serg.” Will forever have a place in my memory and heart and will not be forgotten.
Great Big Teddy Bear! Hugs to all !
Hi Ernie !
