Charles Johnson
Charles Peter Johnson completed his remarkable odyssey on earth, falling peacefully to sleep at home surrounded by the things he loved on his 75th birthday, December 9, 2023.
Johnson was an author, artist, humorist and collector from an early age. While obtaining a master’s degree in English at the University of Nebraska, with undergraduate emphasis in French and Mathematics, Charlie evolved to become a recognized authority in the science fiction and fantasy genres. He was interesting, unique, informed, well read and well loved by all who knew him.
Johnson was celebrated as the founder and curator of Lincoln’s Museum of the Odd, his residence of artistic assemblage dazzled visitors with displays of meticulously organized kitsch from floor to ceiling in room after room. The museum was destination for artists, dignitaries, musicians, tourists, journalists and the curious and was documented in travel guides, television programs, and news features.
His legacy of goodwill, kindness to animals and his legendary after- event gatherings associated with his love of music and The Zoo Bar will be recalled fondly.
Charlie Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Anton and Estey Ripley Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska. Those left to grieve include his partner of over thirty years, Lisa Good of Lincoln, and most importantly, his cherished collection of many, many, many good friends.
A celebration of Charlie Johnson’s life will be announced in the future.

Showering the highest homage to Charlie – the Creative Genius, the King, the Icon, the Rock, the Friend, the fun, the entertainment. All the years and all the miles suddenly fade to loving memories. Thank you for the ride, Charlie, I can’t imagine it without you. Peace forever, dear friend. Lisa, living without Charlie is a road you travel alone, but know that the support of everyone who loves you both is here to help you begin that reluctant journey.
Charlie was most certainly a very unique individual. So many good times, so many great memories. So much damn fun. He made the world a better place. He will be missed. God bless you Charlie
Charlie Johnson certainly led a remarkable life. I am so honored to have witnessed his genius and was so tickled with his witty humor. The Museum of the Odd proved a great way for many of us baby boomers to reflect on our cherished memories. Thank you, Charlie and Lisa!
