Bruce Carlisle Whitten
Bruce Whitten, age 75, passed away peacefully on November 27th, with his wife, daughter and daughter’s husband by his side.
After a four year battle with ALS, he finally is at rest.
Bruce was born in Lexington, NE and grew up in Cozad, NE where he graduated from high school in 1967. He then attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska before transferring and graduating from Kearney State in 1972 with a degree in Political Science. He was a member of the Cozad Presbyterian church.
Bruce started working for Kriz Davis Company right out of college, working in the Grand Island office before moving to the Fremont branch and then finally, in Lincoln. He retired in 2012 after almost 40 years.
Over the course of his adult life, he belonged to both the Lincoln Gun Club and Izaak Walton where he was active on the LGC board and was passionate about shooting trap and sporting clays. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and just in general being outdoors.
The time he had with his daughter Katie was most special of all. Summers were spent traveling to horse shows which brought in a whole new level of friends and family. He was the one who got up early to get to the stables to give baths and get the horses ready for Katie to show. During those years he was president of the Arabian Horse Association and also was manager of the Arabian division of the State Fair, jumping in to help wherever needed.
To everyone, friends and family, Bruce was known to be the most generous person they ever met. There was always someone or some animal needing a helping hand and donations were his specialty.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughter, Katie (Jason) Amick, sister, Suzie (Charlie) Block of Cozad, brother Scott, Cozad, Niece, Shannon (Jason) Fleming, Springview, NE., sister-in-law, Cyndy (Danny) Harkins, nephew, Matt Winn, all Lincoln. His pets, Ruby, Robert, Lyle and Kevin will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by son, Nicholas, Parents, Margaret and Whit, brother-in-law, Brad Lemmon, and grandparents on both sides.
A Celebration of Life is being held on Sunday, March 2, from 1-4 at Pemberly Place, 7655 Archer Place, Lincoln, in the activity room.

I was so sorry to hear about Bruce’s passing. I don’t believe I had seen him since graduation but I remember him well. He was a nice friend and classmate. He will be missed. My condolences to his family.
